Bulldog Will Hopoate will not play rugby league on Sundays for religious reasons

The whole point of religion and the concept of 'faith' is that it is outside the normal human understanding or logic but you still believe, that is faith.

Anyway I am not religious like that but I don't think worse of people that are. As for Hoppa I would be pissed if it is my team but if they have worked out some kind of compensation then so be it.

100% agree
People are free to believe in what ever it is they want to believe in, be it God, the Spaghetti Monster or Cronulla winning a premiership.

None of my business what others choose to believe.
As for Hoppa, that's how he feels so be it, i wouldnt want my club to be signing players who were unavailable for these reasons but he's been upfront with his employer and they've negotiated a mutually agreeable contract taking this into account. I dont think there is anything wrong with that.

Lots of religions keep Saturday as the sabbath that rules that day out too.

fair point.. we get good ratings for origin on wednesday nights.. probably not a bad idea to shift it there.. give both teams 10 days to recover before the game..

This is the problem with you religious types, nothing will change your mind no matter what logical arguements are presented.

John Farnham retirement tour post #1:

Context Billy! I said I couldn't convince someone in a forum, and I didn't think anyone could convince me either. The inference being that LU is unlikely to be the place for fruitful discussion in either direction.

You also assume there's no reason or logic to faith, and for many people that is simply not the case. Sure, it might be true for some, but so many who are religious have a logical, rational basis for their faith. You can dispute the basis, but you can't simply say that there's no reasons for faith. And that's not for a thread in the NRL section.

Mate, the only logical reason to have faith is being scared what God will do to you if you don't do as he commands. Yahweh is not some great God to be blindly followed, power corrupts and I believe the bible demonstrates this well, if you end up in heaven I would hope you would rise up to destroy the evilness that he is

You are like an atheist version of a religious nutter.

This is not a big discussion , if the bulldogs want and are happy to play and train with a player that will not be there when he is needed well good "or" bad luck to them . Id imagine most sides wouldnt sign him in future , regardless of his loyal religious faith. Its black and white really , his beliefs clash with career choice and he has to choose one or the other. Simple really.

If he's talented enough teams will work out the pay off.
When you think about it, it's probably not all that different from getting an older player and assuming they'll be out a few days a year due to injury.

There would be an agreement in place, I'm sure.

I feel like some people have some deep issues with religion (and it's not like I blame anyone for that) but really it sounds like the agreement is in place and until something comes up no big issue...

Cant he just have his spiritual day off on Wednesdays instead??

God is pretty pliable with the whole "morality" thing, i reckon he'd be pretty chill about informal working hours...
:sarcasm::sarcasm:

Seriously though, good luck to him. He'll be lucky to have a contract by years end.

he's

sheesh is it really that hard to grasp

Is it really that hard to grasp I don't care you must have a sad life, say you'd be one of the fools that gave Dangerfield a hard time when he posted "there" instead of they're" yesterday. Get a life.

I would change my mind if sufficient evedence was presented, but I still would not follow cause the God of bible is nothing but a jealous power hungry maniac. The number one thing I did to put me off God was read the entire bible, before that I was more open to the idea.
Why would anyone want God and heaven (which sounds like nothing more than endless worship of God for eternity) to be real.
