I for one think it is fantastic that the club, and the ARLC CEO have publicly come out and supported the player in question, and shown solidarity and some common sense to not react negatively in public, until guilt or innocence is proven, and the players interests are not only considered, but prioritized.

Hopefully, this will be the blueprint going foward for all matters that require a response from the governing bodies, and knee jerk reactions are now a thing of the past.

I am all for punishments for players after guilt is proven, but hopefully the days of reactionary policy is over ( I am looking at you Gallop), and players are not suspended on little more than heresay and rumour.

About the incident at mad monday and they even claimed that Graham didn't bite Slater.
The incident at Mad Monday?

What did they lie about? They submitted a report to the NRL, admitted fault on a number of matters and the players were fined (donation to charity as I understand).

As for Graham, HE claimed he didn't bite Slater, and the club chose to support him. He was ultimately found guilty and punished accordingly.
You don't find it odd that the term "suspended" was used for a player who simply has mental issues?
"simply"?

"simply"?

 Yep, suggested mental illness and a range of actions in breach of the club's code of conduct are "simple" issues to deal with.

FMD.

We're all still waiting on those phantom emails between Des and the Bulldogs that were going to be the centre of Manly's civil action aswell...

You might be but I doubt anyone else is. And you'll be waiting a while. It was settled around 12 months ago.

Hmmm.....if the bloke is ill they could have just said that and stood him down to have appropriate treatment.
If the bloke was a bad case then they could have said that and punished him.
Instead they have had a bob each way and said that he has broken rules because he is sick and they are suspending him for his own good which should also suffice as a penalty for his wrong doings.

I'm sure they are all sincere in wanting to help Ben. But they have carefully managed the announcement so that if the crap hits the fan Ben can wear it. This is a knee jerk reaction and Ben, by the words of the Doggies boss, has been suspended.

If this is the blueprint we want then it just goes to show how low our expectations are.

At the end of the day it’s just good to see the game and the media supporting a player who is having trouble rather than adding fuel to the fire and turning them into a villain. This has rarely happened in the past, so hopefully we’ll see this sort of attitude more often in the future.

Why is it hard to believe that Barba was suspended for breaking club conduct and also stood down until he gets his head right?

How Ben Barba broke down

Very sad for many reasons.

Some people are silly enough to gloat that this hurts the Dogs chances. What a stupid narrow minded opinion. Some are even using this to rub it into the Dogs as a club. All rugby league fans should be disappointed that Barba is out of action. And we should all hope that he gets on top of all of his problems and is back on the field asap.

Hope he sorts himself out but mental illness? I don't think so.

Why not.

This young bloke undoubtly has some temper issues - stemming from possibly his background - colour of his skin, being placed on a pedstal probably from an early age due to his footballing ability etc - many blokes in their teens and early to mid-twenties have a chip on their shoulders, which can disappear as they become more mature.

He is also suffering probably from reactive depression (black dog) due to his relationship breakdown.

Would it surprise you, that up to 20% or more of the population, at any point in time, are suffering from a mental illness and lead productive lifes during and after it.

I wish him luck in overcoming the issues in his life.

Could not have put it better myself, very well said.

Really feel for Barba and hope he gets over his demons as soon as possible, but I also hope that he does not feel pressure to come back as soon as possible and truly takes his time and gets over his problems.

Having worked with people with severe psychosis, suicidal depression, schizophrenia, bipolar etc etc it peeves me to see people who turn to drugs, drink, wife beating, gambling etc etc blame their inadequate ability to deal with life's pressures and use the mental illness excuse. Call me old fashioned but there was a time when precious ltd psychiatric services were focused on genuine mental health needs.

Not saying he hasn't got issues and I hope he sorts his shit out but getting sick of every f**k up blaming mental health issues for their stuff ups in life.

You are talking about severe mental illness there.

Are you saying reactive depression and anxiety disorders don't exist?

How many families are left wondering why XYZ took his or her own life.

The young WT forward (may God rest his soul) did not end his life due to a torn pec muscle.
