same, first year in league and looking good. another Konrad

He is a classic example of U20's - NSWRL - NRL

I think he is much more well rounded the Konrad.

In rugby he played 12 - so does have some ball skills and evasion (not just running over the top of him).

He is a bit smaller, but faster and can kick.

I think he has NRL written all over hiim, still has another year in 20s.
I wont be suprised if he gets upgraded to fulltime and played in vulcans next year.

Well if he develops them - he should be sacked

Carlos Tuimavave - spent three years in 20s and walked out the same 17 year old he walked in as. Only more musclier - only development with was regards to the trainer.

Still cant tackle - still unsure what position he is

comes from a longlist players - who should of developed in 20s/vulcans instead of delaying thier development.

Guys like Sam Lousi, Palavi had NRL potential and should of been ready to go in the NRL - but instead have taken time in Vulcans until they are even considered for selection.

As per working with the Vulcans - I assume the Vulcans are under the control of the NRL team and that Ackland aint seing eye to eye with any of them.

We all know ackland would love to have havili - who would save them in many games with his 2 pushover tries per gam

As for recruitment mate - the Warriors do a great job in signing the best young players. And as far as I was aware it was bell signing up all the kids too.

I used to watch quite alot of junior footy and see them out there.

Ackland purely coaches the team, control the NYC squad.

Can't agree with this more.

isn't that his job, to win games
not if i was boss. way too much emphasis has been put on U20's winning their comp. I can't believe no ones mentioned the prop who played wing most of the season.

Having much superior size and power at youth level can certainly hinder player development, unless coached with development in mind. This is one of the main reasons why the Warriors have traditionally had no hole runners. In fact I'd say Maloney's been our best hole runner in recent years and look at his size.

A good junior coach needs to put systems into place to ensure players learn how to create/identify holes in the defence, find weaknesses, think strategically, rather than just let them use brute force. They still need to use their physical strength to their advantage, but there needs to be a lot more than that.

Steve Matai is a pretty damaging ball runner, but he has so much more to his game, can identify an overlap, will run into a hole rather than at defenders and has lovely soft hands to send his winger away. Tough defender too. The best of both worlds, and that's what the junior Warriors should be aiming for, with good coaching.

It reminds me of a story that came out about Ali Lauitiiti. D. Anderson said he had never learnt to pass the ball properly because he was so much bigger and better than everyne else in the junior grades they'd pass him the ball and he'd run thru the whole team and score. No need to learn to pass when YOU are the game plan.

Hopefully comes back to the Bulldogs as a talent scout again. Got us some awesome talent last time he was aligned to our club.

Idea.
Why don't we make him head of recruitment? Would do a better job than the incumbant.

Why the criticism of him as U20's coach? He selects and puts together a successful team. Not his fault that a lot of the kids he gets haven't been in a club system since they were 5 or that a few have converted from rugby and have a lot to learn.
It is unrealistic to expect him to turn out NRL ready kids. Again not his fault if those that don't make the Vulcans go back to club football and are not heard of again.
I thought this was part of ME's brief - to get the whole system working together, from recruitment to juniors, Vulcans, training, Warriors etc.etc. Big job. Too big for one man and expect him to coach the Warriors as well.

Again I say the fault lies further up. Directors who know nothing about league or the NRL. A CEO who lacks football knowledge and instead focuses on moving the club to Eden Park. Most club boards are a mix of commercial accumen and foorball knowledge. Ours specialise in ladies bras and social issues.

Spot on the mark.

At the end of the day, for Scurrah, he's basically changed everything underneath him and around him, yet the disaster is if anything getting worse. That makes him accountable. Particularly when he was so closely involved in the coup d'etat to oust Cleary, who was for all intents and purposes, our best coach.

Yep spot on, and obviously Ackland isn't buying into that so it's goodbye

Letting him go is a bad idea.

Why dont we make him coach of the Vulcans?

If the issue was him holding back players to succeed at the holden cup, surely he will do the opposite if he was coaching the reserve team?

Why?

Because he is most likely proven to be resistent to change?
Change that needs to happen

If he cant follow instructions or be open to change - then he can leave imo.

Also, from all reports he is not suitable to coach adult teams (at least not a top level)
When he coached with cleary - you do remember he was cut from the job.

Everybody acting like cleary liked the bloke - yet he cut him, to bring in Tony Iro lol.
He is a school teacher - old school (bonkers) to deal with adults.

He was a failure with the samoan world cup team also

If Ackland is opposed to the idea of kids eligible for NYC playing NSW Cup, then he has to go, imo, because that makes it appear he's against these kids developing to NRL standard.
