Can RL take over from RU in NZ?

My opinion is that League is a great game for TV - better than Union, AFL or soccer - and if you did a graph on the growth of TV coverage around the world and the growth of the game around the world they would look pretty similar - and that's for the very good reason that the more people get a chance to see it the more fans we get.

It won't take over from Union in NZ any time soon, or from AFL in Victoria any time soon, but the more available the coverage is the more fans we get.

again, lets look at the current situation.

S14 has been a fair failure on TV. very much so in australia where the ratings are terrible, and now they have fallen in NZ as well.

will future TV deals for Sanzar even have the same value as todays contract? judging on TV ratings i would say nope.

they are talking of a much longer S14 season to raise the money. they are clearly flooding the market ie more tests, more S14 to cover losses.

contrast that to the NRL where it dominates on Pay TV here, and should be getting more money than today.

when the next lot of TV deals are signed, you will find the NRL clubs having a much higher salary cap than now, whilst S14 clubs will be lucky to have stable revenues, and not a cut.

in that environment the best rugby players will gravitate towards league.

also, a 2nd NRL side in wellington will only enhance the codes growth.

So you have given up your claim that the NRL outrated the Super 14in NZ then?

Including the Toyota Cup, I think there would be. The two Friday night games were always 50-50 as to whether both were on live, Saturday was always one game delayed, so Sunday is the only day we've lost a regular live game from (although I think both games have been on live once or twice this season, haven't they? Don't quote me on that though haha).

Oh, and I have no idea what goes on with any Superleague, either.

i forgot about Toyota Cup and i think the ESL coverage is very good, 2-3 games a week.

be quite an interesting exercise finding out how many people watch Toyota Cup and ESL games

Probably more than out here seeing as you guys get it live and we get it about a week later after we know the results.

nope i replied to it on TFC.

ive shown the ratings there for warriors games are indeed at or better than S14.

now you claimed RL ratings had fallen.

link?

You provided a link to a League fan site as proof??? one that you can see if you havent joined???? the link you have provided in this thread said it rated better than the NPC game it was on after. Where is the link to the Warrirors betting the Super 14 game it was up against?

where is the link to the relevant new story or sky ratings?

I claimed that ratings have fallen for sports across the bored... its in the sky Annual report in the link already provided.... the fact that League is now only available to just over half the audience it was last year, would tend to indicate that the ratings would have indeed fallen... or is logic not your strong point.

How many times do I have to repeat... the SKY Sport annual report shows sports watching has fallen across the bored... also this year the League has moved off SKY Sport 1 to Sky Sport 2... meaning that ALL those who could watch the League are now not able to unless they have Cable or Satt installed... given that League has a large "blue collar" following and both of those options are not cheap and are certainly much more expensive than UHF.. then it stands to reason that League ratings would have fallen this year... NOT because of loss of interest, but becasue of the cost of watching it....

Now your turn... where is the link to show that the Warriors out rate the Super 14?

so you have no actual link theyve fallen.

ta.

ive shown a link where the ratings for S14 and Warriors games are the same.

though if the union ratings keep falling, that wont be true, will it

My fault...I should never have expected reason from you...

you have provided ONE link with a rating for ONE game from last year that showed it rated higher than the NPC game before it.... that is all.

You claimed that the Warriors rated higher than the Super 14.. you have yet to prove it.

ive provided more than 1 link about warriors games.

youve provided no links on RL games.

if you find a link proving RL ratings specifically have fallen, then fine.

you havent.

its like talking to a child...

The only link you provided above is to a report that said ONE Warriors game out rated the NPC game before it... nothing about it outrating the Super 14.. where are the other news source links.. and TRL forums is not a credible news source... not that anyone can see the releveant information without registering first...

I have provided a link to the SKY annual report... read it.. you will find the information you keep asking about... I have never specifically said League ratings HAVE fallen... i said due to the information provided in the SKY report it stands to reason they have...

youve already quoted from them.
:lol::lol:

now provide a direct link to RL ratings falling or admit youve got nothing
I quoted from the single link that shows a warrior game outrated an NPC game... it mentioned nothing about Super 14.. so either your an idiot or a liar.

looks like you cant even remember what you wrote. this ring a bell einstein :

that quotes a NZ Radio station.

now do you have any links about RL ratings falling specifically?

according to this comment on TRL :

http://www.totalrl.com/fansforum/index.php?showtopic=45639&st=75&start=75

the warriors rate around the same as a S14 derby game.

heady stuff for the game in NZ.

im still interested in a link showing RL ratings have fallen.

So let me get this straight... you have provided a link... that nobody who isnt registered can see that links to a post of someone who heard something on radio?... and THAT is your proof???? a defence lawyer you aint...
