No brainer ain't it ? I can't possibly see how Gidley would get the call over a fully fit Stewart next year.
NSW need a specialist Full back with speed,he ain't it,jack of all trades but he's not a master Full Back like Stewart. So if he doesn't play Full Back he has to aim for a place on the bench and its bye bye captaincy as well.

A very good club player but i've not seen anything in 3 matches to convince me that he deserves a starting spot at Origin.

Stewart,Morris ,Morris, Jennings and Hayne...............lot of speed there, that'll give the Queensland Backline something to occupy their minds with.
Gidley at 5/8 ? Why ? Because he's captain is it,he doesn't deserve automatic selection status and I'd go with the halves combo that did a number today.
Gidley can wait on his selection,no way should he be an automatic.

5/8? Would you really select him in front of a specialist 5/8? Would you really want him there when you could have Mullen, Campese, Barrett or Soward. Sorry but he will be benched next year and will lose the captaincy if Stewart is available.

Gidley should of never been picked for nsw this year in the first place let alone as captain. If he wasn't such a clean skin media darling he'd never even be considered, same with wolfman.

After Game 1 he should have been dropped and Jarryd Hayne should have been moved to fullback. Jarryd Hayne was our best player this series, while Kurt Gidley was barely above average for the most part.

Funnily enough his best game was in Game 3 where his injury forced him to avoid trying to do everything himself. His pass to Jarryd Hayne that setup a linebreak was only a result of not wanting to get smashed, and it was probably his best play of the game. It worked out well having our players support him so he could avoid getting hammered.

Naming Gidley as captain was the worst decision IMO. He's a good player but by no means in indispensible. He was no guarantee in the team until Stewart was ruled out tbh and then we go out naming him captain even though he could easily not be in the team next year. He's a good fullback and that's his best position but there are plenty of those around (Hayne, Stewart, Mini, Patten) there are better five eighth and hooker options at his own club let alone the competition. Halfback is an option (knowing the NSW selectors) but Gidley is not a halfback and we have better options anyway in Kimmorley, Pearce, Hornby, Wallace even. He shouldn't even be on the bench, he has done nothing from the bench and Wing has been so effective for us...if it's not Wing we can still have Ennis/Farah there as well

Guys Brett Stewart will be fullback for one reason, Anthony Watmough.

Brett scores a lot of tries off Watmough's breaks because he anticipates them and supports him. 2 of his 5 tries this year were from this I think.

As you can see Gidley was no where in site whenever Choc made a break.
Stewart would have gotten close to a hatrick last night on the back of Watmough.

Acutally Watmough got one good offload near the end of the game and it was Gidley who picked it up.

^^, watch the game again abrichta.

I'm sure I'm not the only who will admit Gidley plays a lot better when he's not as involved... he keeps trying to bring his game from the Knights to the Origin table which isn't what's needed. I thought he had a good game last night tbh.
