Webb has played under Bennet, Murray, Henry et al.

He has been trained by the Australian and Queensland's Billy Johnstone and whoever the Broncos trainer was (no idea).

Why would he suddenly come good now after all these years??

The guy is a Dud, $150K is $145K more than he is worth.

Ive never hated a player, but it comes close with Carl and he played for my team!

Well, if Carl Webb starts playing at his best again, Parra will be the ones laughing-at you.
The Eels have got one of the most hard-ball coaches in the NRL, and one of the best trainers in the NRL. Add the new club effect and the fact that the coach won't tolerate any BS like Neil Henry does, and you've got yourself a recipe for 'redemption'. If they can't get it out of him, no-one can.
However, he will be 4th prop at Parra, and they have ample replacements if he doesn't perform, so if he thinks he can be lazy he will be kicked from the side.
He's cheap too, so it's not like they are actually wasting money on a former international prop; they gave him your standard NRL player's contract (around $150,000 per year), so if he doesn't perform it's not like they have wasted anything.

Seriously though, as a part-time Cowboys fan myself, I must say that the club change may do the world of good for him; the Cowboys have done themselves a disservice by sticking with him and going easy on him. It's a win for both the Cowboys and the Eels.

You're a "Schooner half full" guy Box. I can groove with that.

Personally, I imagine, like any schooner near Carl Webb would be, its empty.

Anderson can't get the best out of solid pros in his team now. A hack like Webb will not improve.

Im sorry but thats just not true. Our forward pack for the most part of the decade have been our biggest weakness but the last 2 years we have had a very good performing forward pack.

8. Mannah
9. Keating
10. Moi Moi
11. Hindmarsh
12. Smith
13. Shackleton
14. Mitchell
15. Horo (possibly Matua)
16. Webb
17. Poore.

Apart from the hookers, every player there has a proven track record. Whether they can reproduce it is another story.

I have faith in DA to get the best out of people, but Carl Webb????? Id rather John Mannah back.

Hey and if he starts to fire on all cylinders good luck to him and the Eels. Personally I can't see Billy Johnstone going soft on too many people but you never know.

We have Hayden Knowles. He does work with Danny Green, Vic Darchinian (?) and he's doing something with Usain Bolt.

But you can only help someone who wants to.

You lost me at the point where you had someone bracketed with Justin Horo. I can only imagine that's a typo. Horo should just about be the first player pencilled in for Parramatta week in week out.

So did Webb according to the media.

I cannot believe Parramatta would waste 1 cent on this guy.

He roughs up Bailey a bit in an Origin and all of a sudden he's a potential world boxing champion, Arthur Beetson and David 'Cement' Gillespie all rolled into one.

The only thing this bloke is a good at is eating and punching blokes when they aren't looking. I can't think of one reason why anyone involved with the Parramatta club would even entertain the notion of signing him to a playing contract. To any contract at all for that matter.

They aren't even struggling in the forwards. Jacob Loko and Taniela Lasalo are good prospects. Shackleton is coming back from injury and will virtually be a new signing. Why they would want to sign a lazy, overweight, has-been that is likely to do no more than impede the path of a younger player with infinitely more potential is beyond me.

I suspect Carl will only play about 5 games with the eels over the next two years. He'll get there, have a one on one chat with the coach on how he wants to become a star player again. He'll go to training and realise it is still hard work to become that so decides to get fatter and lazier and check career one for jobs in the next 2 years.

All the while getting paid 150k a year. Great deal for Webb, crap deal for the Eels.

Anderson will live or die on this signing. If Webb is a massive flop which is 98% likely then the Eels will have a new coach in 2012.

:lol: @ Cowpats fans. Who signed Willie Mason again?

Webb is the $150k signing that has the potential to become the $300k player. And the Cowpats track record of getting any player at their peak is pretty dismal post 2006.

Then again, so is ours......

I look at it this way - it's like looking for cheap CD;'s at Golo and finding Muddy Waters greatest hits for $2. Worth a punt cause it's cheap.

Add Maitua (possible) and Parra will possibly have a very strong pack IF they can get discipline into them. Generally, however, these buys are the sort of signings struggling clubs will do.

I dont know how many of our games you watched but Mason along with Matt Scott have been our best 2 players all year (maybe along with watts). And you do realise we are only paying Mason about 70-100k??? Your argument is pretty silly mate.

Look i hope it all turns out well for you eels fans, but take it from someone who has had to watch this over rated piece of sh*t play for my beloved club for 6 f**king years and be an absolute liability in nearly ever facet, ive had enough of him. There is a reason why we are getting rid of him, because he is rubbish. I reckon 99% of our fans would agree with me.

Look, I hope for the sake of Parra and Webb himself that the change of scenery fires him up and turns him into that devastating weapon he used to be 5 years ago.

I just don't see it happening. The guy is a complete hack.

Webb makes at least 1 crucial, momentum-changing error/penalty almost every game, and lets in at least 1 try every game through lazy or sloppy defence. And he's only been playing 20-min stints off the bench.

You watch him at a game live in the last year, if they ball goes to to left, he drifts to the right and that's both in attack and defence. He avoids having to do work. If a hit up is needed, half the time he looks for a pass because he is puffed......

Beave, my point is that people were saying EXACTLY the same things about Mason when you signed him.

Another thing - I couldn't imagine many forwards at NQ hassling Webb - or embarrassing him into his best. I could easily imagine Fui and Hindy doing that - Hindy with his workload and Fui with the hitups that Webb used to do.

at least I f*cking well hope so, because it didn't work for Mateo, Cannings, Tsoulos, Poore et al

Ha quality

He has played with Rauhihi in his prime (Dally M prop of the year), workhorses like Kevin Campion, guys who try there guts out like Matt Scott.

You could count the number of good games he has played in 6 seasons on one hand (which has 3 missing fingers). He couldn't even bring himself to play hard in an off-contract year like he had done in the past, just to taper off once he signed his fat contract.

Sorry Strat but I reckon youve got yourselves a dud even for $150K.

I can't really remember that.

I remember Mason was coming off a knee reconstruction and below his best, but I don't remember anyone with any credibility saying he was carl-webb-esque.
