Carney or Hastings

How do you know he's on the slide OT? He looks just as hungry as ever to me and barring injuries he was playing very well for Catalans. I think that a full off-season behind his belt and he'd thrive. And for the record Benji had an excellent year in 2015, he was actually tied second in the Dally M standings.
I also refuse to engage in this shit about his age. So many spine players are in that age bracket, even older, and are killing it.
James Maloney is 30, he just played for Australia and is in the form of his career. The NSW halfback.
Cooper Cronk is 32, just won the Dally M Medal.
Johnathan Thurston is 33, don't really need to add much to that.
Robbie Farah is 32, as much as he's a goose he's still a very good player.
Michael Ennis is 32, just played the year of his career and was instrumental in his side making and winning the GF.

Pretty much every game that Hutch has played in First Grade, people have said that he's not up to it. Seriously I was sitting on Facebook groups for the Dragons during live games he was playing and nearly everybody was on his back saying he's not First Grade standard. I watched most Cutters games this year and he definitely didn't set the world alight. His best game was the Grand Final. I just want to avoid a scenario where in case Hutch fails, who do we turn to? It will be another year or testing and trailing halves like the whole Chase Stanley, Nathan Fien debacle.
At least if Carney fails, we can turn to Hutchison.

I know Carney is on the slide because he just got punted from f**king Catalans. Carney will cause havoc off the field, his problems will seep into the playing squad. Not saying everyone will turn into drunks but you cant have a senior player completely taking the piss at training and not have it influence anyone.

I Don't think carney or hastings are they answer.... Both are similar players to widdop

We need a halfback thats going to play direct at the line and straighten up the attack.... may have to wait for 2018, when some of the better halves come on the market.....

Still don't understand why we would not reconsider Hastings? He's had time to mature and maybe eat humble pie as well? 1 year deal with 2//3 renewal based on performance?

Why is there an automatic assumption that Saints will successfully acquire one of the available "better halves" in 2018?

We've already seen a plethora of established first grade players reject the Club's advances (namely because of Doust/McGregor), and also a coach named Ivan Cleary.

If we could get hastings for the right money might be worth a punt could be good off the bench and if hutch doesn't make it we have not got a lot of options like a lot of people I have really got me doubts about hutch I also think the coaching Staf have their doubts to instead of making him lose weight they may be better off getting him bigger and playing him as a ball playing lock young field is a gun but maybe not quite their yet

Field has the elusiveness and acceleration we need but I don't see him as an organiser

Hutch is an organiser with a good kicking game

He doesn't need to be fast or elusive to play half

What he lacks in leg speed he can make up in reading what is in front of him and speed in decision making

Best players I have seen were all able to read/anticipate the play and were therefore 5 metres in front of their rivals positionally because of this attribute

We must have plenty of archeologists on this forum as they keep digging up fossils like sign Hastings. All in all Hastings has already signed with the Roosters for 2017 and to quote Millward there is nothing in the market they wanting to chase and I seriously doubt Hasting would be anywhere near the half back we would want in any case. I'd rather sign Harry Seikja before i'd see Hasting dirty our jersey again.

Because he has not proven to be much, if at all, better than Hutchison. Hutch is a loyal and committed junior, time to give him a go. He may succeed, and he may not, but investing in our junior seems to be the new strategy and in my opinion it will be a good one in the long run.

Hutchison reminds me of a much bigger Brett Firman with his style of play.

It might have something to do with his kicking game....I dunno.

Go figure.
