Perth and Central Coast for me, but I can certainly see the argument for Brisbane II.

BTW, any tips for the premiership this year Ronny?

St George/Manly Grand final.
Greg Hartley to make a comeback and hand it to Manly.
Peter Peters to eat all the pies.

I think it would be great for the game and continued development/expansion of the NRL if they sue. Hopefully they can do it before the next Tv deal. Hopefully it is for millions and millions of dollars, that the NRL doesnt have. That way the NRl will fold and then the CC Bears can run the game. HQ can be at Killarney Vale.

Seriously, why would you sue the hand that feeds you. Without the NRL the CC Bears would be a figment of someones imagination. What would all of the "members" do then?

No - sue the NRL and News Limited for hundreds of millions. Bankrupt the NRL, get rid of News Limited then appoint genuinely independent figures to run the game properly like the AFL and negotiate a proper TV and associated rights deals.

It only seems like 'ridiculous propaganda' because the Bears bid is so much better than any of the other ones out there. Apart from the Reds, none of the other bids have even bothered organising a team name, jerseys, sponsors, home grounds or memberships. The Bears have had all of that for ages, and deserve a spot in the NRL.

Sometimes in life you don't get want you want despite the hard work. The norths bid could have designed their jersey a thousand years ago and had their logo since the dawn of time. The fact is that the NRL deserves a bigger pay day, a relocated norths side won't give them that.

I dislike your mocking cheer squad type attitude, and I think you take having an NRL club for granted. Mocking people who have done extensive work which may or may not eventually pay off (depending on expansion plans and how certain Sydney clubs are travelling in a few seasons) for the club. People dont just let go of their rugby league clubs easily, and this includes the mighty Bears. I mean personally I'm a fourth generation Bears fan, it's been passed down across the 90 odd years we were in first grade, and im sure there are many around in this boat, long term fans who just want to be able to watch their club in first grade again.

So sure, raise legit concerns over location (because the rest of the bid is pretty f**king good IMO) but this condascending attitude can f**k right off.

Congratulations - you've done one class on Contracts Law at Brookvale TAFE - and now you're lecturing on the subject.

The fact is - the Bears were promised a regional licence meaning they would not be reviewed under the criteria in 1999. the only loophole was that, if any club was considered insolvent at the time, they were out of the picture.

Fact is - with a future at gosford supported by north shore - the Bears were never going to be insolvent. In fact, their future was brighter than most NRL clubs - still is. Yet - magically, a "likely to be insolvent" decision was made literally days before the criteria was to be decided. An absolute crock - which then resulted in a Norths/Manly "JV" whereby Manly got Gosford.

You wouldn't quite understand all of this - but try to think it through.

Nice one Ronnie, and what are your legal qualifications? Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Business at La Trobe University here.

And you failed to address the legal issues. It's not even a contract...the NRL owe them nothing...especially not after all this time. As I stated before - if they could do something legally, why haven't they done it yet?

It's all about location location location. It's kind of like building a mansion in Western Sydney. It might cost you $100 million dollars when you first build it, but once built, you realise you are living next door to a meth lab, and your wall keeps getting graffitied. The value is gone.

edit:
This is a better analogy. You build a $100 million dollar mansion on the harbour. But there are already 8 other $100 million dollar mansions on the harbour. You hoped your mansion would stand out and continue to earn value, but the market is already heavily saturated and you are just another schmuck who spent too much money on something that is going to gain very little.

PS Rockin'

If the Bears sue and bankrupt the NRL then no other club will join a comp that they're a part of - so that whole idea is ludicrous to say the least.

The Bears may be able to sue to have their status restored but they'd have to prove they were thrown out unfairly by the NRL as Souths did. From memory, they weren't thrown out by the NRL, they disolved the Northern Eagles.

Therefore they wouldn't have a case for re-admission.

You claim that the bid is water tight, except for location, yet that is the most important criteria.

Once you have a good financial model in a strategically important location, everything else is window dressing.

On labeling us condescending for thinking that the Central Coast is a bad backwards move for the NRL (as opposed to the NSWRL), it is born mostly because of the attitude of certain Bears denialists.

I'd direct you to the first post of this thread, and to this quote from Beowulf:

At least all the bid teams/supporters agree on th need for clarity. Sad to see nothing changes - the Bears have been through this constantly for 7 years now with the NRL, so we're used to it and will just ignore Gallops statement.

That's the problem with a monopoly, they get lazy and arrogant.

Bring on Super League 2 with the 7 bid teams and a few breakaways (Melbourne and 2 Sydney teams would do it)!!!! Perhaps thats why News is holding out?????!!!!!

How could you possible know that?

Unless you were a fly on the wall between the NRL's discussions with the TV networks you can't possibly know. You can only assume.

Whats to say the admnistrators of the newly formed Super NRL (post suing of cause) would want the bears. They might see that area of not requiring a franchise.

Bring on another abortion of a team like the Gold Coast Blaze or better still, establish one in an area where nobody gives two shits about league. We should consolidate our strongholds before venturing into potentially apathetic or hostile markets.

Should the Central Coast Bears not be given the green light for expansion by 2014 (at the latest), then they have very strong legal case - and should sue the NRL and News Limited immediately. The grounds are very strong.
  • The NRL made a promise to give the Bears a regional licence - a promise which was wrongly circumvented;
  • The 'insolvency" call in 1999 was a fraud - the events surrounding this will be exposed in any court action - and there will be a lot of nervous people if this happens;
  • If the Bears were "likely to be insolvent", then at least 8 other clubs were in a far worse financial situation (and still are).
The restoratuive and punitive damages would be massive.

I, for one, hope that this legal action takes place - on behalf of all Bears' fans and Central Coast fans who have waited over 10 years for the original promise to befulfilled.

It's time to deal with thes dickheads with a big, big stick.

You have no right to demand anything. I'd like to see the Bears back, don't get me wrong. But its not your right and its not for you to be telling the NRL the right time to expand.

So true.
