This might be an odd question, but the Bears fans might know.

Do the Central Coast Bears bid/Mortgage House have any part/share in the Centre of Excellence project at Tuggerah?

I saw the project and I have to say, I was surprised at the sheer scale of it. Any Rugby League club would envy it and if the Bears aren't involved, then they're going to be locked out of the biggest sports facility on the Coast.

It's the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence, and it's a partnership with the Wyong RSL club that owns the land it's being built on.

Plans are being drafted and in-principle support for a similar arrangement involving the Bears at the Mt Penang Parklands at Kariong, which the incoming Liberal government is set to fund. I'm sure it was posted in this thread recently, but for recollection sake:

The NRL should be expanding to SEQ, Perth, Wellington, CQ, PNG, Adelaide. To add another team to NSW would be insane.

Unlike those bids, it isn't just the bid team making noise on the CC but the community themselves. With sponsors, equity, business/financial models, local support, financial members, infrastucture all in place.. the CC with the NS have 22% of the most populated state in Australia to represent. The market and consumers dictate expansion. We have the market and definitely have the consumers ready to buy into the game.

It's a no brainer.

Central Coast Bears' campaign to join the NRL could be derailed by teams from Brisbane or Perth

Heated bidding .. Central Coast Bears fighting to join the NRL.

Central Coast Bears should be bypassed in favour of a second team in Brisbane or one in Perth if the NRL expands its competition in 2013, according to Craig Davison, a director in his consortium's bid for another team to be based in Brisbane.

Davison said that Gosford was geographically too close to Sydney and would also damage nearby rivals Manly Sea Eagles and Newcastle Knights.

He said a second Brisbane team would help ward off the AFL while the game should expand nationally by including the WA Western Reds. "No doubt the Central Coast is a good model and they have a strong bid," Davison said.
"But a team there would only hurt Newcastle and Manly. I don't want to denigrate another bid but there are obvious question marks about the Central Coast.

"They have the funding but there is a bigger picture. Ask Manly and Newcastle. You also have to look at the demographics.

"I think the WA Reds would be a good option to grow the game nationally and our bid would ensure southeast Queensland keeps the AFL out. We are hoping it comes off."
Davison said 18 teams would ensure a wonderful NRL competition but questioned the financial viability of some Sydney clubs.
"You have to ask whether some of the Sydney clubs can survive. It is a dilemma," he said.
However, Central Coast CEO Greg Florimo predictably scoffed at Davison's comments.
"From a commercial point of view, we don't see ourselves impacting on any other clubs," Florimo said.
"Our bid has covered the expansion side of things and also consolidated a rugby league heartland area. We have 5500 registered kids on the Central Coast and a further 1200 on the north shore. Bring that together and it is a massive franchise area."

Classy bloke, having a bid 2 days old and attacking a bid that has overwhelming support. A lesson in how to disaffect the general community in 1 hit.

There is a distinct lack of understanding of CC people, they don't consider themselves part of Newy or Sydney and never will.

That may be the case, but bad luck for them. The IC will have business sense the game has needed for decades.

CC's best chance will come when a Sydney team dies. And not before.

Oink !

Well, no point in deliberating further, Pigskin has decided what the IC will do.

Queensland is the only place where we decide what's good for the game now, to hell with NSW.

What people keep stupidly forgetting is that while Sydney may well have too many team, regional NSW currently has just 1.5 (2.5 if you include Canberra/ACT).

There's definitely no harm in adding another team to regional NSW, and the Central Coast fits the criteria.

The obsession with adding umpteen Queensland sides.... what happens if Bris2 and CQ both get admission? We're then looking at an oversupply of QLD teams in many eyes.

Main trump card denigrating another bid - not a good look. Cannot be much of a bid if this is their main point. None of the other bids have seen fit to trash the other bids.

Whats worst the point is a spurious one. The financial difficulties of Newcastle and Manly are not singularly related to the number of teams in the region. There are many reasons these two teams struggle - spending beyond their means possibly?.

If fact the only impact that is certain is that Manly will not be able to raid the Central Coast & North Sydney Districts and claim North Sydney as their territory.

Bold part - enough said

There is a distinct lack of understanding of CC people, they don't consider themselves part of Newy or Sydney and never will.

That's because they aren't Newcastle or Sydney

Things are going to go into overdrive in May when the IC is founded and hopefully announces there will be expansion. I expect to see alot of digs at other bids, I hope our bid team stick to promoting the positives of a WA team and leave the negative stuff about other bids well alone.

Interestingly the only negative stuff has been from all 3 Q'land bids! CQ, Ipswich and now Brisbane2 have all had a dig at other bids.

Obvously only one or the other will be accepted this time around.

Obviously?

Queensland just got expansion, Perth is an absolute must, and the next strongest bid is clearly the Bears.

There's nothing sure about any Queensland bids, given they're all in varying stages of infancy.
