On a sidenote, one of the bid team has already been to the Chicago Bears and is travelling there very soon if not there already. Our link to the Bears is quite interesting - the founder of the Big Bear Shopping Centre in Neutral Bay was an American Chicago Bears fan, with League the closest game to it in Australia he became the sponsor and mascot initiator for the North Sydney Bears.

Fair enough - Ive referring to your mates comments above about modeling the CC Bears ownership on the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.

One is community owned and the other privately owned...

This would be like modeling a new political party on Liberal & Labor...

Understand - I think the bid team is looking at ways to incorporate both, so ideally as R&B Bear says it will be a unique model. Private ownership could be anything from 51-100%. I personally would like some community ownership as it fits the community build up for this team - all depends on the practicalities. Ken Sayer is a Bears tragic and isn't in it for the profit. He's keen to have the community involved if its at all possible.

I for one would buy shares or ownership value if offered.

You know full well when I made that statement the map on the bears website showed them claiming a large slab of our territory.

I emailed them and they amended their map.

Yet more Bears arrogance on display.

Again, we are not "afraid" of picking up 2 points and laughing at hick coasties twice a year. We are afraid of picking up tetnus on the annual trip to Gosford, though.
Arrogance? Arrogance would be if you emailed them and they didn't correct it, you bitter fool. They received your email, realise the (small, not large as you claim) error and corrected it.

How that displays "arrogance" in your book is remarkable. They're not bidding to enter the competition to tread on Newcastle's toes.

Newcastle do not neglect our region, which runs from Woy Woy to Coffs.
What was that arrogance you were speaking of? Oh, the one where now YOU are claiming that Newcastle's area takes up not a small slab, not a large slab, but ALL of the Central Coast. Flaming, raging hypocrite.

Hopefully if/when the Bears are overlooked, those sponsors, etc will stick with Rugby League, with the team that represents Northern NSW - the Newcastle Knights.

It is reasonable to think that if the Bears wanted to look after an area the Knights have looked after for the past 10+ years, they would be looking to work with the Knights for a smooth transition. They are doing the exact opposite, due to arrogance and petulance.
Central Coast isn't Northern NSW. And Newcastle have NO right to it. What utter, vile garbage. It looks more to me like Newcastle (or a fan of theirs anyway) is claming CC areas to make it look like the Bears are treading on toes. Who was supposed to be looking after the area prior to those "10+ years" you claim? Oh, that's right, the CENTRAL COAST BEARS.

are these people like Timmah who have said they won't support the Bears?
So I pay my membership fees to the Bears and involve myself with the club in some ways for the fun of it, and won't support them?

Where do you pull this crap from.

One more time for the stupid.

YOUR ORIGINAL MAP CLAIMED A SLAB OF OUR JUNIOR AREA.
slab  Maybe a piece of land the size of a beer slab. The logos attached to your precious (since corrected) map don't even include any teams in the Swansea/Caves area, which is the only "non CC area" they inadvertently highlighted.

Whichever way this goes, there are gonna be some bitter, bitter people with egg on their faces. Personally I hope it's the Knights and Manly sooks.

Agree and disagree. I know quite a few Knights fans who have no issue with a CC team, whether it's the Bears or another side. Most of them are quite reasonable.

In the Bears' favour, I also know plenty who *say* they support the Knights because they're the closest thing to a local team but due to distance never go to games... and having spoken to them about the Bears they seemed to think, hey might go to some games now - it's that sort of grassroots support that will help the Bears greatly. Of course some Knights fans might view that as the club losing fans, but I'm talking about people who don't follow closely enough to buy merch or go to EAS, not a financial or membership loss to the Knights I spose

A Central Coast team has been mooted by league writers since the 1980's and in my opinion is long long overdue.

As for the issue with the Knights, I don't think it will hurt them one bit.

In my experience i find that people living more towards the central coast don't support Newcastle. No idea how widespread this is though.

The newcastle and hunter region seems to be growing pretty quick, i don't think the knights will have many problems with support.

Personally im not sure which one i want just yet CC or a QLD team (eventually i want both) i just hope Perth gets in.

Hopefully the IC admits all four teams. End od the day - which club can prove itself to be sustainable. The Storm are getting a 8 million dollar to stay afloat. Can the WA Reds being in AFL territory ensure they won't be in the same boat. Still CC Bears must be admitted.

RL Myth #143

End of the day which teams will add more to the NRL than they take out. That is what will decide it imo.

I don't think any of the current bids will have any negative effect on the game. Maybe CQLD doesn't have what it takes.

Brisbane 2 bid has close to $10 million worth of sponsorship lined up.

Have they handed over the money yet?

... and they are stronger then Ipswich and (currently) Bris2, Bris2 seem to be arrogant and are offering nothing the Broncos don't already offer (apart from being an alternative to the Broncos, which isn't hard due to the fact that by definition they have to be) and only have potential to take from the Broncos/Titans memberships and crowd averages.

There was a headline on fox news saying the Bears bid could be derailed as there are too many NSW sides. No idea where it came from but from a business/expansion point of view it makes sense to me. It's the only reason why they would be rejected.

Pretty sure it was someone involved in the Brisbane2 bid.
