AFL players on average are no more or less intelligent than NRL players. The difference is they're smart enough to not just put any moron nuffy from any team on their Footy show. The NRL footy show seems to have a "we'll take any players that want to come on" attitude. The AFL show is smart enough to get the players with decent speaking skills on their show.

Also, I know all rookie AFL players get formal media training after they get drafted. I don't know if the NRL does the same for its new players.

You think the Footy show needs more ppl like Terry Hill, speaking with a lisp?

For the argument on the last page, only the afl "best of street talk", 95% of people who made it on had a disability.

Players aren't naturally media savvy and its not their prime job, some do it better than others I won't comment on the AFL Footy Show because I never watch it, its not interesting enough.
If they're players are speaking well good on them but that's probably because they are under PR directions and not really letting themselves flow. Not saying NR players don't do the same thing but you see them a bit more as themselves rather then be all stiff and speak like they are smart.

I'd say its the opposite. Players who answer the question without the stock standard lines and have some personality are the ones who come across much better. Basically being themselves.

Sure the PR training could help with confidence to be themselves, but surely very few NRL players lack confidence.

But then it means they need to have some intelligence too, because being your self doesn't come across well when your name is Greg Inglis.

"dunk" bits, where people, guests get buckets of miscellaneous shit tipped on them for comedic effect, .. It is lame. f**king lame.

Seriously, a slapstick scene where the "mark" is wearing a waterproof jumpsuit that has a bucket of something poured..... Blaaaaaaahh....

Please stop embarrassing the good people that support this great sport.

Ever since Toyota Cup started they've had induction days & the NRL clubs are spending time on media skills with players, but the talent pool is pretty thin. From what I've heard, AFL players sound much more articulate than NRL players - whether it's pre or post game, in a pre-recorded story or on a panel show.

^This^

Last year (I think) when the Footy Show had an interview with Gallen on, his answer in particular to the question, "How did you feel when Ricky Stuart quit?" was intelligent, honest, gave an insight to the bloke that I hadn't seen before, and seemed unrehearsed. It actually changed my perception of him: He's slightly less of a merkin off the field than I thought.

All afl players have media training when they are drafted. league should do it if they don't already can only help instead of being a negative

that show last night disgraced everything about rugby league - from the game itself to the people that follow it.

when is any folk associated with rugby league in this country going to realise that the image of this sport continually holds it back from being the widely supported giant that it can be. Instead, the limelight always seems to focus on merkins who cant string a sentence, toilet humour, or belligerent personalities who always have a personal agenda.

The sport will never shake the stigma of being that game for the bogan working class if it continues like this.

A few comments about the show -

1) Vossy - I think we have seen enough of the clip of Gardners arse!! Plays it every week - getting boring
2) Why do they give any airtime to a boofhead streaker! This shitbag wants to run on and hold up the game for every spectator and millions of viewers just because he cant handle his drink and Vossy shows him two weeks in a row.
3) They had Inu on the show when he played at Parra and he was terrible at being interviewed. So why bring him on again? Surely someone like Johnson or Maloney would have given us a lot more.
4) Why can't Mario just go with the flow instead of carrying on week after week like a 5 year old. Fatty was dead right when he called him that.

It actually wasnt a bad show overall imo.

I completely agree, it paints RL in a bad light; some bits are funny.

Ill probably get shot down for this but I think the footy show is racist, it demeans women and it embarrasses rugby league.

They embarrass every women that comes on the show, they always have a stupid skit about races and they are just completely unprofessional tools with no charisma or flow.

(cue the wankers running in saying political correctness gone mad)

Also cue Timmah saying "don't watch it if you don't like it".

The attitude changed ever so briefly after the Matt Johns drama & him being stood down by Channel 9, but leopards don't change their spots.

The Footy Show is still running?

I have not watched it in years and there is next to no advertising for it on 9

Its been a waste of air space for a very long time now
