Shouldn’t be compared to Kerr and Sele, he’s not a middle. Should be compared to Sims and Luc, the former works better as a middle at this stage of his career and Host played better than the latter...

You still can have impact on an edge. Friz does it. Coen Hess does it. These guys aren’t necessarily hole runners but they definitely bend the line. Host had one nice run where he make some post contact metres but that was about it.

It was a trial where pretty much all our forwards got a run and he definitely wasn’t one who stood out. And in the competition for spots, he really needed to.

Hence it might explain his omission this weekend.

In the competition for edge backrowers (which admittedly was a low bar) he definitely did better than Luc, especially considering the game time he got.

Have to agree there.

But looks like Luc seems to be higher up on the pecking order in Mary's eyes hence didn't need to do as much. That's the only likely reason he got a second start ahead of Host.

In my opinion, Luc was average last weekend as well

If Host is not injured and isn't selected Rd1 then bet your bottom dollar we are in for a long frustrating season where we will constantly scratch our heads about Mc Fookknuckles selections.
He will persist with his game plan despite its obvious shortcomings and failures.
If Sims starts as left edge player and stays there then we will run out of puff by Rd 8 if not before that.
The coach has no foresight or understanding of what is needed to get our side to be consistent and get through reasonably unscathed as the season progresses.

The CS, is a trial but has a great history and is usually a good guide as to the team to go around come Rd1. As many say " the unofficial " start of the season. Both clubs enjoy this with good reason and good cause. my interest will be who gets the most minutes, positional selections, and to see if what we have done in the off season has led to some combinations.

LIke i said in previous posts , i think there are several spots up for grabs in the forwards, backs and the bench.

I hope it is a real " trial " and that players are selected on performance, not reputation.

That would make Mary quite contrary!

How do you explain Host's omission from the squad?
Concerning to say the least IMO.

I agree Old Timer that Host's omission
is baffling. He rarely makes a mistake but Mary persists with Lawrie, Leilua and Sele who make silly mistakes and are erratic. Leilua just seemed to be
showing that he could get through the game fitness wise and made no impact.
Host and Ross would be the two forwards that I would be encouraging as the other three make silly mistakes that lose games. I can see the Sharks picking up Host who mist be pissed off
like Mann.

The omission of Host is puzzling. He is an edge running back rower that could play big minutes and is FG ready.

Can only mean Mary has decided to play Sims on the left edge of the ruck.

I see Leilua as an impact player at this point off the bench. Host has probably missed out on a toss of the coin. He will play some FG this season.

Mary has picked a bucket load of front rowers for this game in LAM, Graham,Vaughan, Kerr, Latimore and Lawrie with Sele also capable of playing in the middle. He may be simply sorting out in the pecking order of front rowers. I see Kerr as the bolter.

Gets back to Mary's thoughts on bench composition.

What seems to evade Mary is that the players running around in Reserve grade are closely watched by other clubs. Especially the ones building for the future. We did it with Paul Vaughn. The kid is signed until 2020 but as we all know player movement can still happen. I believe that the sharks can smell blood in the water and wouldn't surprise me if they are watching carefully how the season pans out.

Mary seems to be obsessed with the power game. He just wants big bodies whether it be on the edge or in the middle. That’s why he’ll likely start Sims on the edge.

And I’m guessing Lawrie, Latimore and Leilua are shoe ins for the bench as well whilst Host will languish in ISP.

Well the power game worked well last year. Why not again this year?

Host as far as I know has a injury and will be missing out this week.
Being in mudgee they though he could get better treatment here.
If it was a nrl match he may play but because its a trail he want.
Thanks Samy for clarifying I hope that is all it is.
I hope the young fellow gets a fair crack first up this year as I think he will be very good player if handled correctly.

Mate you need to go easy on the anti McGregor stuff- makes you look like all you do is bitch and moan. He has an injury as per Sammy who is on the money with inside mail- why throw in “I hope that is all”- what are you insinuating?

For the record there was no injury report from the club re his non selection which I would have expected if we were truly a professional outfit.
Well may Samy have some info and no disrespect to him until I hear it from the club it is not hard fact
In respect of Host IMO he has been treated somewhat shabbily and I would not like to see that continue
Re my opinions of Mc Fookknuckle is there anything else to do but bitch and moan or have I missed something?
I am not insinuating anything just merely stating I have seen plenty of bewildering things with this coach and put nothing past him re his reasoning for dishing out poor selections.
