Charity Shield 2023 vs Souths

They don't make coaches like Roy Masters anymore do they...

In his first year as head coach of St George, Roy Masters inherited a side that had won just 11 games in ’81 and finished behind the Bunnies on the ladder, but that wasn’t going to stop him talking up the Red V.

“We’ll beat Souths for sure,” Masters said, despite the form guide showing a loss to Easts in a trial earlier in the week.

I think there is a bit of difference in the forwards that Masters had to what Hook has. I'd like to compare the coaches as well but to me there is no comparison !!!

Is not
Sullivan on the bench.
Mbye 5/8.
Absolute Crap.
If Sullivan is fully fit he should be 5/8 if he isn't he should not be playing.
Is not a trial an opportunity to get some game fitness up which he needs.
I cannot see what is wrong with starting him on the bench then playing half a game at 6 for a trial when the heat is out of the game when he has not played for 6 months and coming off hamstring strain
Besides he will be happy it will be scorcher on Saturday

Agree as long as you say , he gets 30 , 40 minutes ...... if he doesn't then it's the same crap all over again ...... Time will tell ......

Hook must have missed the Indigenous vs Maori game - how the hell does Fuimaono get a jersey ahead of NLT or T.Couchman or anyone for that matter, he was diabolical. I wouldn't bother trialling Stewart again, he's obviously not ready for first grade and same with JHunt he's a reserve grader and back up only in a crisis, nothing more. I want to see more of (if they are eligible to play 1st grade this year), Egan, TCouchman, Coric and possibly Tamale and the Finau brother who plays wing/centre.
I'm happy to give Burns more time to prove himself but not at Lock, he's not the one for the 13 jersey, I can only see disaster ahead with that move.
For mine Lui Toso earned a run against the Bunnies.
Unfortunately we won’t be seeing any more of Coric in 2023 as he’s done his ACL. I think the club may be cursed.

Mbye at 5/8 is a safe and logical choice. Sully needs to be wrapped in cotton wool. We would hate to lose him for the start of the season against the weaker sides so need him to be 100% for round 2.
Slippery, the Dragons against any side is tough for them. The Titans will not be a walk over, nor will the Broncos, then Sharks, Dolphins, Titans again, then Raiders and the Roosters in our first 7 matches. In fact, we could lose all 7 games. Sullivan if fit, should play and start in all of the games and not be on the bench. He needs continuity and getting used to playing with the other guys weekly and go through the tough, vigorous times.

Anyone can cop an injury because it is a contact sport with bodies and the ground involved. Some clubs over the years have had long injury lists and as such found it hard to win games to a degree and missing out on finals. Those same injured players return and the clubs they play with are better the next year in general but not the rule.

I want us to win the Charity Shield again this year as it always feels good to win and if we suffer any injuries, then so be it.

While I'm backing Sullivan to replace Amone as 5/8 this season, his injury problems are a concern. I saw some attacking plays from Treigh Stewart, particularly his acceleration through a gap, that had me thinking he could be an option for the number 6 if Sullivan goes down again and Sloan copes at the back. Thoughts?

What's Stewart's defence like, particularly if he's got big edge forwards running at him?

17 Charity Shield wins all hey. What club will lead 18-17 after this Saturday at Mudgee or will it be a draw? Come on Dragons - you can do it again.

After Bloker went toe to toe with the poms and with some prop depth, he will have a big year as he has been carrying the load over the last few years.

I'd go F Molo to start round two and JDB as lock. As it's a trial, whoever performs the best out of the reggies and first's gets first crack.
