Charity Shield 2023 vs Souths

While I'm backing Sullivan to replace Amone as 5/8 this season, his injury problems are a concern. I saw some attacking plays from Treigh Stewart, particularly his acceleration through a gap, that had me thinking he could be an option for the number 6 if Sullivan goes down again and Sloan copes at the back. Thoughts?
I honestly think we’re crazy if we think we can get through the season without replacing Ramsey & Amone. I hope Bud can get through the whole season and kill it but he’s injuries worry me.

What's Stewart's defence like, particularly if he's got big edge forwards running at him?
While defensive skills are important everywhere, I would argue that it's more important to be a good defender in the last line where you have no support than up in the line where others such as edge forwards can help out. Cody Walker is an ordinary defender, but he is so pivotal in attack, it's never stopped Souths from picking him.

Yes I agree K-D. There is every chance of Bud going down with several injuries in his rugby league career as he puts in most of the time but his body suffers.

Losing both Ramsey and Junior Amone for this year is a real bummer. If we had these two for this year and of course the next few years we would be a team harder to beat in my opinion.

The club might be looking for suitable replacements but I don't think so. What we have on our books is I think what will be the squad for 2023 and hopefully who we have can lift and do what is necessary to keep us in the hunt for a top 8 finish. Wishful thinking and the way that we play in the first 7 games will give us more of an idea where we will be in September 2023.

Some people just see it differently.

I thought his defence was actually very good for his 1st game in the top grade.

Much better than Burns or J Hunt.

All the wax lyricals for Blocker who will never manage to average more than 7.5 - 8 metres per run at best and despite all his big shots has poor 1st engagement in tackles.

I think NLT will prove very handy indeed and he has a chance to actually turn a game which Blocker will never do.
But didn't we just resign him ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Wish the team the best against Souths , whom have been a true premiership contender for the last few seasons .

Realize that it is a trial however I hope that the Dragons are able to put up some stiff opposition against those damn wabbits and make a game of it , so at least we can walk away with some hope for the new season . 😇

I am not sure is wrong with a 530 :slot for Reggie’s snd 730 slot fir 1st grade
It is the premium trial is it not?
Well it used to be
Sorry forgot the WCC
Yep - from the premier Pre-season fixture to the status of Fox Sports curtain-raiser for the WCC (aka 80 minutes of embarrassing, slavering fanboy worship from the commentary team about the Panfers).
Mind you, the presence of Musgrove at starting prop plus Woods and Fuimaono on the bench while Lui-Toso, Muhleisen and Russell play KoE hardly gets your pulse racing, does it?
It just proves two things that we all know:
a) a leopard never changes its spots and
b) Hook is a clueless, f**king dickhead.

T.Couchman is out following a knock to the head last week. Russell will get a run but I'm not sure why Mulheisen and Lui Toso weren't named. Why Fuimaono is still playing for us is anybody's guess, maybe after his 10th missed tackle this arvo Hook will wake the fk up.

I remember Fui playing in the 13 spot a couple of years ago to start the season & he was very good with a simple plan of running straight & hitting hard. He then missed a couple of games & since then has only been used on an edge where some of his decisions in defence leave a lot to be desired.

The problem with Fui is his tackling technique. He spends more time on the sideline than the kid holding the kicking tee

How good is it waking up on a sunny Saturday morning knowing that the dragons are playing in the arvo?
So glad the footy is back, and we have some things to look forward to. Our 1-5 looks exciting. We have a new hooker that isn’t old and slow.
We have a few youngsters coming off the bench. I just hope that today we show some creativity in attack and defend for one another.
I don’t care if they drop the ball 100 times, I just want to see something that I haven’t seen in attack from them for the last few years.

Wow your post is enough for me to get a Chardy out and reassess my drinking thinking.

The charity shield last year saw us take some risks in attack which generally actually payed off. I'm excited to see how we play today and if we bring that out again. Going into the season proper, we seemed to put that expansive game plan to bed for whatever reason. We've got the players to play that way, so let's play to our strengths and get the job done again this year. Looking forward to it.
