Interesting Dufty has not been named for either 1sts or NYC. Did he pick up an injury or will he be named for the cutters trial to give him some extra game time?

Is Blake Wallace not getting a run because he's not contracted to the Dragons and only Cutters?

Yes. If he continues to impress then that may change.

Also, we 100% need a second hooker option. Don't know how many times Rein needs to struggle for 80 mins for people to realize he isnt up to it, particularly if we have a genuine bench hooker in Havili.

Good stuff. Putting up against older, bigger bodies for longer than they would in the CS can only benefit their development at this stage.

Sorry but they won't be at this stage the Cutters trial is for Cutters players only well that is what i was told.

They haven't been named but don't be surprised if they play the second half of the charity shield as the Under 20's team named players are playing for contracts where the others already have one.

Wasn't aware the Cutters game was only for Cutter players . I am sure they will get a run somewhere . Has Leilua not got a contract ?

He was the one player that was way off the pace on Friday night . Lazy is the perfect word . Maybe starting from the bench is a result of the effort he put in Friday night .

Boy if they dont win against that Souths side (albeit only a trial) I will be disappointed. Like em to win every match they play including trials. That 38-0 half time deficit in 2014 Charity Shield under Price still haunts me watching that from the stands.

I expect you guys to win. Your forwards should be far too strong.

You won't get Souths anymore under strength than this.

Going off your teams depth and some of your players injury/judicial histories it is actually pretty likely that your team may look similar during the season proper. What happened to your teams recruitment?

Jack De Belin to lead Dragons' 2016 Charity Shield charge

St George Illawarra forward Jack de Belin wants to bring his developing ball playing skills to the fore against South Sydney in the 33rd annual Charity Shield.
The Cootamundra junior, who debuted in 2011, wants to mix his tough running and heavy tackling style that are his trademarks with the more subtle areas of the game.
The Charity Shield is a tradition between the clubs with the Dragons and Rabbitohs holding the first clash at Redfern Oval in 1982.

The Rabbitohs hold the shield after last season’s 12-all draw.
The Dragons have won 16 times with Souths winning 11 of the 32 clashes so far with five draws.
De Belin said he enjoyed blending his game between attack and defence and wanted to continue developing his style this season.
‘‘I am not the biggest forward around, I have to play a bit smarter,’’ de Belin said.
He tips the scales at 103 kilograms and said he was ready to tackle the Rabbitohs.
The Charity Shield is always played with plenty of intensity. - St George Illawarra forward Jack de Belin
‘‘The Charity Shield is always played with plenty of intensity,’’ de Belin said.
‘‘I always look forward to this game and then the season kick-off.”
De Belin said there was plenty of competition for places in the pack this season.
New additions including props Mose Masoe, who is back from English Super League team St Helens, and Russell Packer add size up front along with Englishman Mike Cooper.
Veteran club captain Ben Creagh will likely play off the bench as a prop, with starting prop Leeson Ah Mau and back-rowers Joel Thompson, Tyson Frizell and de Belin all vying for places.

De Belin comes from a rugby league family, with his late grandfather Fred a former Australian Test forward.
De Belin said his grandfather, who also played with the Balmain Tigers and represented NSW 10 times, had been a mentor to him.

A number of players won’t be available for the Charity Shield match as they will be playing in the NRL All Stars game on the same night at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
New Dragons captain and five-eighth Gareth Widdop will pair with South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds in the halves for the World All Stars team, while Rabbitohs prop Tom Burgess will also line-up for the World team.
Souths will also be without Chris Grevsmuhl, Greg Inglis and Alex Johnston who will play for the Indigenous All Stars alongside Dragons forward Joel Thompson.
Kick-off in the Charity Shield is at 5.30pm.

Great to see some of the young guns graduating to the Cutters even though they are still eligible for the NYC.

Well Madge bases it on a bash and barge approach.

I think Souths won't be missing 9 players in the season of which 8 are very good quality.

It's great Sam is back. Cook is a good signing. Hunt could go well.

Nielsen is a dud. Not confident re Oldfield either.

I guess it's how the cap goes too when you have success.

Enjoy the Charity Shield and the win.
