Hahaha all about the Bunnies and their under strength team. Lets be honest, 6 of their players that are out this week would make their team for round one. We have 5 players out who would have been in our round 1 team. Its a trial and even if we win by 50 or lose by 50 couldn't care less. Lets hope for no injuries on both sides and a nice open game. Good weather will be nice as well.

Experimental Rule Introduced For Charity Shield

The St George Illawarra Dragons have been informed that an experimental rule which will see differential penalties awarded against players who do not play the ball correctly will be used during the traditional Charity Shield fixture at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Saturday.
NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg said referees would be encouraged to strictly police the new interpretations to ensure players were penalised for failing to play the ball correctly.

Greenberg said NRL match officials had worked with the clubs through the pre-season on ensuring their understanding of the change was clear.

“This has been identified as an area which needs to be addressed and there clearly needs to be some increased regulation of the play-the-ball,” said Greenberg.

“We have consulted the coaches and also worked with the clubs over the pre-season to ensure they are ready for the changes.

“It is a relatively minor offence but it is a source of frustration for many and it is clear there needs to be some penalty applied for failing to make a genuine attempt to play the ball.

“We understand how critical penalties can be in the context of a game, but a differential penalty will ensure that referees can apply the rules more vigilantly.”

The success of the change would be assessed before it was decided whether the rule would be adopted in the future.

Trial matches will also include new rules preventing teams from forming a wall to prevent charge-downs from field-goal attempts, ahead of its introduction in the NRL Premiership.

The rule allows that “if two or more players form a wall (side by side) next to the play the ball and don’t allow the opportunity for a defending player to move directly towards the player in possession, the referee will penalise for obstruction”.

New shot clock timings will also be in place for the Charity Shield ahead of the formal introduction of the technology in Round One.

Following recommendations put to the Competition Committee and the Coaches Conference, the ARL Commission endorsed timings of 35 seconds for scrums and 30 seconds for drop-outs.

Any team which does not pack a scrum or execute a drop-out in the required time will be penalised.
Should both teams not pack the team with the loose head and feed will receive the penalty.

Well Madge bases it on a bash and barge approach.

I think Souths won't be missing 9 players in the season of which 8 are very good quality.

It's great Sam is back. Cook is a good signing. Hunt could go well.

Nielsen is a dud. Not confident re Oldfield either.

I guess it's how the cap goes too when you have success.

Enjoy the Charity Shield and the win.

So you guys will be missing 8 of your best? Well we aren't far behind that in missing 5 of our best in Dugan, Widdop, Frizzell, Masoe and Thompson but I suppose that is testament to our depth

Souths pack is their strength and they have

Tyrell
Sam Burgess
George Burgess
Tom Burgess
Grevsmulh
Plus Reynolds Johnson and GI.

These players are irreplaceable and make up eight of their starting 13.

Every chance during the year that they will have to replace a number of those players at any one time as we did last year. As Set said, we are missing a number of quality players for this trial but testament to our depth it has barely been mentioned. Should be a good trial match.

De bellin should be our lock full stop he has the best defence in the club and an underrated running game . Cooper is a front rower with good footwork just because he is not 120 kg doesnt mean he cant play there . I believe he should be used of the bench after 15-20 minute mark which he could make an impact .

Definitely. JDB is highly underrated. He averaged around 100m a game along with 40 tackles last season from around 55 minutes a game. If you're into the fantasy nrl side of things his ppm was sensational. Cooper should be part of the prop rotation with LAH, Packer, Creagh, Ikahififo and Lui.

Lets be honest Mitch Rein is useless. we will not win a comp if he is in the team. Havali offers more ????????????????? Country Dragon what is your best 17.

I think it is more the suggestion of Mann to half and Benji to bench and fill in hooker....

Benji playing dummy half not sure if serious or should i not giggle.

People have a go at Reins passing and well at times it isn't great but in saying that Benjis isn't the best either thats why you get the Rocks and Diamonds quote.

I am surprised they didn't let him go but they don't have alot of depth thanks to sammy.

I must say I'm impressed with the strength of your starting 17 and even more impressed with your depth. Mary has done well to rebuild your squad and by the sound of things you still have a fair bit of cap space.
