He was happy to sign on for $85K which seems extremely low for a starting halfback, but now he is realising his potential we need to upgrade him, the reported $125K he turned down is a laughable figure for a guy that has proven he is the best young prospects in the game. Come to the party Manly and retain him cause there are no better options out there.

Sabre rattling. In the end he'll be offered what he wants (unless it's extraordinarily out of the ball park). I just hope the board negotiate quickly.

Manly fans have to come to terms with losing one or two of our favs to keep DCE.

Seems a little suspect to me, we're expected to believe a multi-premiership winning team full of International or origin
players, is working well under the cap...nothing like convincing people you're a poor club, who's paying it's roster well
under the limit, just before you offer your halfback a big juicy contract, to avoid the suspicion of over spending.

I'll try and keep it simple because you are obviously a little dense. The Sea Eagles are on the edge of the cap, the very edge. They are under cap pressure. Ergo, they just can't offer him a huge contract to keep him without losing someone.

Manly very much have the upper hand of re-signing Daly since they have the advantage of upgrading his current deal.

they SHOULD have the upper hand, but your geniused management didnt bother in trying to upgrade his contract last year and want him to play for peanuts for the next 2 years. I can understand why he's knocked back a 4 year deal - if it isnt going to seriously increase the next 2 years why would he play for f**k all the next 2 seasons to only get more in 2014?

when young players start performing a lot of clubs seem to reward them by upgrading existing contracts - manly hasnt so i can understand why he feels disgruntled. he's an australian rep and he's getting less than nobodies in the toyota cup  and yet manly seem to think he'll be happy with this

the story was also in RLW yesterday so it aint just from paul kent (unless he wrote the article, i dont have it in front of me)

ouch

did your dog bite popeye or something?

I agreed with you until the section in bold. They obviously realised he wouldn't be happy. They are negotiating with him.

If I was DCE I would be pissed off as well. Hopefully this is just a play to push Manly into figuring out how to upgrade his deal.

Haha, guess we'll see if they magically find room for a major upgrade.

i guess the devils in the details, the only thing "reported" is that they're tabling a 4 year contract - not an upgrade to the existing contract (none of us will ever no exactly what 's being negotiated), but to me if it's a further 4 years rather than an upgrade it's still poor form. if on the other hand they're saying we'll upgrade your existing 2 years plus add another 2 years then it's manly showing they're willing to pay to keep him

I think it's more likely to be the latter. It would be almost unheard of for a player to be contracted for the next 6 years.
