Cherry-Evans asks Manly for a release.

He asked Cherry and he admitted it, why would he make it up ?

Daly confirmed that his manager requested the release, not him. Even the Telecrap confirms it :

"....can reveal Cherry-Evans' manager, Gavin Orr, lodged the request..."

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...manly-sea-eagles/story-e6frexnr-1226299700218

All Daly has stated is that he is leaving the matter in the hands of his manager and that; Orr requested the release.

Some other noteable quotes from Orr for those who haven't looked into it :

""When Daly signed the (Manly) deal, no one wanted him. I tried to sell him to every club but the so-called geniuses in recruitment didn't want him."

""I think Daly should stay. It is in his best interest to stay with Kieran...."

Orr asking for a release is to be expected tbh. If Daly is released, and signs for club X on a huge contract = Orr receives a huge and instant commission. As opposed to : waiting until the offseason to sign a new deal, thus making poor Gavin wait for his 5% or whatever he's being over-paid.

Daly being released is much better deal for one of most merkinish agents out there than him staying put on less than $200K for another year. A deal or 'story' which has been drummed up by a first class cretin in Paul Kent.

Overall, I wouldn't read a whole lot into it. Manly have been negotiating and initiating deals (which is a good sign, especially considering the Hasler saga). Plus, the lad is still contracted until the end of 2013 ffs. It's not as if he has six months to go and the panic button is being readied.

So long as Manly have the following for the next 3-5+ years, I'll be happy :

1. B Stewart
6. Foran
7. Cherry-Evans
13. G Stewart

Having Watmough as a one -club player would be nice too. However, everyone else is replaceable.

Paul Kent just revealed on NRL on Fox that Dale Cherry-Evans Manager has requested a release from Manly for the last year of his contract, that being next year. Kent didn't reveal whether Manly have granted it, but at this stage all signs are pointing at Evans will be a free agent as of the end of September.

So, begin speculation: who has the space in their salary cap to pick up the young talent?

EDIT: Spotted the thread from Bunniesfag. Nevermind, lock please.

Do you honestly think you'll keep all 4?

Remember all those reports that Foran was going to sign with the Roosters in 2010?

Me either.

At this stage, I couldn't give a shit if Manlys sinking ship would potentially damage the code. They made their bed, now they can lay in it.

In regards to the Broncos, unless Cherry-Evans has experience in other positions, that new contract with Wallace could be a problem.

Gavin Orr said:
"If they can't afford him then why keep him for another two years? Let the kid go and play somewhere else. They can't hold him to ransom on a contract that isn't acceptable to the level he is now at.
Course they can champ, it's called a contract. The thing that you convinced him was the best deal he could get back when it was offered.

"I asked for the release for next year so we could have a look around if Manly can't match his market value. I told them they could have the final right of refusal.
So... you told the club that he is contracted to, that they could match an offer to keep him, but only if they first let him out of said contract? How very noble of you!

"People like Tautau Moga at the Roosters are on more," Orr said. "Cheyse Blair last year at the Roosters was on more. Blair is on more than now at Parramatta.
How bout you tell the world some more private information and bring players who have nothing to do with this into the argument, you c**k!

If you know so much then tell us what all the Storm players were on! Or does that not suit your purpose here?

"When Daly signed the (Manly) deal, no one wanted him. I tried to sell him to every club but the so-called geniuses in recruitment didn't want him.
If you were so sure he'd be a great player then why did you agree to a 3 year year deal?????

f**kwit.

I won't put a figure on (what Cherry-Evans could earn)
...instead I'll quote another player's salary that was fabricated by the media so that I can claim my boy is worth more...
but I think he is ahead of Chris Sandow and Sandow is on $550,000 a year."
Bang!

It is in his best interest to stay with Kieran. They work well together and bring out the best in each other.
So then stay, Manly are offering you an upgrade and I'm sure continuing to win and beoing part of a winning combination will be better in the long run. Or you could get your boy to join Souths on the lost Sandow money and he'll be on the scrap heap in two years...

but it depends on whether they can match Daly's market value.
They matched it during the last deal! Are you going to demand $600k (more than Sandow's apparent salary) and then give some of it back if he doesn't win the Daly M every year? It works both ways you merkin, and we don't see player managers offering clubs money-back guarantees if their boys get paid overs, do we?

f**k player manager's are slimebags of the highest order. And just as bad are the players who sit back, knowling that their manager is acting like a merkin, and say "I'm letting me manager take care of it".

B-Tron, I don't think I've ever agreed more with a Post than this one. Bravo.
Cheers mate, it just annoys me so much. Did you read the RLW article? Orr was quoted - actually quoted - saying that DCE was finding it tough to make ends meet and considering a second job! Haha a 23 year old who can't get by on the $140,000 he earnt last year (after match payments)!

Sure, try to get the best deal for your player, and if you think he's worth more then chat to the club. But do it in a dignified way, and don't come crying to the media expecting the public to feel sorry for your boy who's earning more than most people do during any time in their life, never mind at 23.

I understand he's drumming up business, but cut the crap about DCE trying to "make ends meet". Poor little Daly, it must be so tough.

EDIT: oh yeah, and then the players wonder why the public turn on them if play bad!!

If Manly was allowed a finders discount in the cap they could have offered him substantially more without interfering with it . . . maybe one day
