Im willing to bet that the Titans will have better average results over the next 6 years than Manly do

Manly have now chewed up a heap of cap space, reportedly fractured the playing group and dont have all that much coming through the Jnrs. The Titans, while set back a bit, will have money to burn on better forwards and an up and coming half to partner an already good young talent

I honestly think they have dodged a bullet here

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but firstly, how much cap space do you know has been chewed up in this re-signing? There are sizeable TPA's for sure.

As for the playing group being fractured, Brett Stewart is the last of the old boys group that had the vendetta against DCE. He will find it a lonely place if he wants to continue that agenda. It's a completely different playing group dynamic now.

And as for no good juniors coming through - rubbish.

Nah, Titans will benefit more. Cherry-Bevans is a funny looking merkin and no one wants to hang out with a weirdo.

Possibly, but the TPAs are not going to be worth more than 10-15% if you are lucky. He is going to chewing up a lot of space

Stewart may be the last public figure but id be surprised if there arent more after all of this. The rumours around Toovey too are tough to ignore

The NYC being mid table at best and the NSWCup side being the bottom of the NRL backed clubs shows that depth and jnr base will be a problem

Moseley, Elgey, Roberts, James are great young players going forward. If they coulda kept Sezer they would be in a pretty good position in terms of talent.

you and Danny Boy forget Sezer who we had to let go because we thought we were getting DCE. We DID let one go, we just decided it wasn't going to be LG. So it's kinda dumb to be making the 'you can't keep all halves' argument really.
If he was any good, you would have got him to back flip or never leave in the first place. Go back to my description of looking at it from Manly's perspective. Put on the CEO's or owners cap and tell me what you would do. If you don't get at the DCE back flip option, I'll be stunned. Sandow and Seizer are not the type of halves that you can build a club around.

If, and we really don't know the whole bloody deal, Manly have paid overs, he adds a lot to the club through media exposure, crowds, memberships, one club, representative etc. Do you think Sandow or Seizer would provide any of that on top of the on field. Could either captain? There is so much more to a marque signing and you were planning to tap into that with DCE. That is why your club was singing so loudly what a huge signing you had performed. You simply didn't have him completely locked in just because he signed. And you should have known that from all the previous examples over the years.

A few years from now this will just be a 'remember when' story, no one will give two shits beyond that.
As it is always, remember the Steve Turner thing? I remember being 'outraged' about that.
I'm now a business owner, funny how that changes your outlook.
Titans had far more risk vs reward and DCE made the right decision.

Except for 2009, Manly has finished at the bottom of the NYC and Manly haven't had a really good reserve grade side since about the mid 80s. But yeah, given that we're going to finish around the same place yet again this year in the lower grades, it's going to be catastrophic for the first grade side.

Manly utilise their lower grades better than most clubs. A slow trickle of good players coming through to bolster the first grade side. Jake and Tom Trobjevic and Clint Gutherson have just broken into first grade and all 3 look extremely promising.

Once again, I think you'll find many of us weren't 100% convinced he was even coming. It was the way he conducted himself during the whole thing that we were annoyed about. 'I am committed to honoring my contract at the GC Titans in 2016", like, a week earlier before he resigned with Manly? Huh? Bullshit.

Anyway I'm over it, you can have him, but don't come crying to us when you realize you won't have any cash to put into any marquee signings in the next 10 years. In a way I feel that because we made Manly up the $$ offer we screwed them more than they screwed us.

Their last marquee signing was Lyon in 2007, did pretty well without going to town on established talent the last 8 years so dont see why that would be a problem as they have good juniors coming through like Tom, Gutherson etc.

Actually all the media speculation was around the fact he DIDN'T come out and say that. The Titans staff were saying they believed he would but DCE never said he was committed, he said that Manly still had the opportunity to try and keep him.

He handled himself disgracefully.

“He had told us that he was committed to the club that nothing had changed and that he didn’t expect anything to change, so there was no point being paranoid and ringing him every five minutes to check whether that was still the case," he said.

Regardless of whether you feel he handled himself disgracefully, I was responding to a point that was made and the fact remains that DCE very clearly did not make comment that committed himself one way or another. In fact, that is the very reason you believe he handled himself disgracefully.

He made plenty of sly little comments like "at this stage I am going to the gold coast and I cant see that changing" just keep your mouth shut dancing around the truth is as good as lying. I don't begrudge him for taking the biggest offer but stringing the titans along like that for a few months to get that bigger offer was terrible.
