Craig Gower
Penrith v Northern Eagles, round 25, 2000
This was a huge game for the seventh-placed Panthers, who were looking to consolidate their spot in the top eight. The Eagles, meanwhile, had suffered an extremely disappointing first year, but they had defeated Penrith 27-16 in round three. Craig Gower shone throughout the season, and this clash with New South Wales incumbent Geoff Toovey was viewed as an ideal opportunity to push his claims for inclusion in the Rugby League World Cup squad. Gower played all but two games in 2000 at No.9, and this record-breaking effort was an example of why he won Dally M Hooker of the Year award.
Adam MacDougall
Warriors v Newcastle Knights, round 20, 2001
The Knights were sitting comfortably in fourth place on the ladder, while the Warriors were one point outside the top eight. And the Warriors' 45-24 hammering in round seven meant the New Zealand side had recorded just one win from their past eight encounters with Newcastle. Adam MacDougall had been a key member of the victorious New South Wales side that swept Queensland in State of Origin. He scored 14 tries in 2001, the highlight being this round 20 contest. The popular winger known as Mad Dog equalled Darren Albert's club record of four tries in a match, displaying his trademark strength.
Denan Kemp
Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta, round 12, 2008
Brisbane were fourth on a compressed ladder, just two points from the lead, with Parramatta 11th, just two points further back. The Broncos' six rep players were well-rested after a bye, but there were doubts over skipper Darren Lockyer after he had missed State of Origin I with a knee injury. In an incident-packed game rated one of the best of the season, the try-scoring performance of Denan Kemp was largely overlooked. But he became the fifth Brisbane player to score four times in a match. He crossed for 19 tries in 2008, many a result of his brilliant pace.
