Chris Paul --> Lakers - (Vetoed again)

Pretty much sums it up. Being bad enough to get a priority really does nothing but hurt an already struggling franchise which would only get worse with no CP3 and no other quality like Odom etc....

The only other trade outside of LA I can think of is a Rondo swap other than that NO will not get shit

Stephen A Smith radio show on 710 ESPN just said his source said that the plan was in place for cp3 and d12 to come to the Lakers. It was a package deal. It was already to go. Cp3 and d12 had talked about it and that was the plan.

Glad the deal got blocked, this shit can't be allowed to happen. f**k Superfriends

That certainly changes things.

It's already getting boring. Gilbert is right that 25 teams are the Washington Royals. It doesn't help that the same star players going to big markets are all primma donnas

Atleast Miami created their dynasty through free agency and took a gamble, all this trade shit just allows LA to get two top 5 players for 2 ageing players and an ok center, how the f**k is that fair to all the other teams that spend years developing their rosters and aquiring pieces?

This trade was the best deal for NO. They're f**ked now if this trade doesn't happen in a slightly altered form which is a possibility.

They will lose him in 66 games. They will have nothing to show for it. They will be one of the worst teams in the league next season.

And this wasn't necessarily a slamdunk for the Lakers. They were trading the best frontcourt in the NBA for 1 center. Yes a great center but that's it.

They'd have no frontcourt depth, no PF at all, no SF (Metta World Peace doesnt count), no backup guards.

They'd be a thinner version of the Heat. And Kobe and Paul both have knee issues. And they would have had to play 40 mpg in a very busy season. One of them could have gone down and it would be game over.

The Lakers were taking risks here, NO is now in a worse position.

And all you guys hating on "superfriends", well guess what, it's a free world. Players are allowed to play wherever they like. And if they're willing to take less money to play together, noone can stop them. If you block these deals, they're only going to walk away in free agency leaving their old teams in an even worse position.

Stephen A is often full of shit though...

It just seems like the league won't be happy unless the Lakers give up all their assets so they can get one of Paul or Howard which imo is unfair if they have a valid deal in place. Giving up Odom and Gasol for Paul is a lot and if they were to give up more for Dwight they would be VERY skinny and run that risk like the Heat did(and they didn't win..)

Why do you think they want to be traded mate?

If they are traded before the deadline...and then opt out...they are able to sign for the max deal.

If they let the team's deal expire...and went to that team in Free Agency, they'd get less money.

THere was an article on Grantland breaking down how much money they'd lose in going to FA instead of trade & opt out...it was like $30m. I'm trying to find it.

These dipsticks don't want to take less money ffs. If they didn't care about the money...let the Hornets trade you for whatever they can get now from the freaking Timberwolves. Then you can leave in FA and go wherever. Its not about the money right? My freakin ass.

All I have to say is thank Christ for Kevin Durant. A guy who loves his team who took a chance and drafted him and is giving them all he has without being an egomaniac f**kwit. And NBA players wonder why people end up hating them? lol.

On Paul.. He is going to leave he has told them he is going to leave so he wants to be traded and the team gets value for him rather than a hole in their roster. The hornets wouldn't be able to sign Odom, Martin and Scola on the open market at once.

Then trade him to anyone then.

Why does it have to be LA?

Oh thats right...because he wants to go there so he can get his extra $25m.

I'm sick of these asshole players dictating to their teams where they have to go so they can get paid what they want as well as going to the team they want

Why doesn't the NBA just quit now and just have 8 Super Teams and have them play each other 10 times. At least it'll be close.

1 - LA Lakers
2 - LA Clippers
3 - Miami Heat
4 - Boston Celtics
5 - Chicago Bulls
6 - Dallas Mavericks
7 - New York Knicks
8 - Brooklyn Nets

There you go. All the big markets covered since that is all that matters. Then the NBA players can have the league they are heading towards. Where small market teams are nothing more than feeder teams.

OKC and Memphis have been doing alright as well .

And how is Miami a big market? Aren't it and Cleveland pretty similar in terms of market size?

Miami is still a more desirable city. Houston is what, third biggest city in the US and no star wants to go there.

It would seriously take a 10 team league before any star wanted to go to the Clippers aswell.

Memphis also just lost Battier to the FA now he's at the Heat and OKC had to do it through draft picks. Westbrook was continually shit on by experts now he's considered a top tier guard. Neither team would attract a CP3 in FA and neither team would have a CP3 sign the extension or any good players it's draft or bust but now when they get the draft the players leave at their peak.

The league needs elite players spread out across teams. Maybe concessions had to be introduced but it stinks that Boston, Miami, LA and NYC can build all star teams but the trade should really not have been blocked

So then it doesn't necessarily correlate to market size, which for some reason media experts always state as fact.

And to be fair to the Celtics and Knicks, they were shit for a long time before they acquired their teams. I mean the Knicks had to live through the Isiah era

The Lakers are the only team I can understand people having a gripe with, since they never seem to really hit rock bottom.

Yeah OKC is doing ok. Because they drafted their guys.

What marquee Free Agent have they attracted?

Russell Westbrook has already come out and said "hey man I wanna go to LA once I'm done here".

Only Durant is the player with enough stones to repay the faith in drafting him.

Noone gave Westbrook a shot other than OKC...but now he's now a borderline elite guard....Man...I wanna get paid & play in LA.

As for Memphis...they got Marc Gasol through a trade with LA where they gave up heaps and got only him back in return. They got Zach Randolph after an 08/09 season where he played for 3 different teams in the same year. They got Tony Allen by overpaying. They got Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo through the draft. So I will ask again...what big time free agent is going to Memphis? Answer...NONE.

Battier went there because noone else wanted him. Now he had one decent year again...he's off...going to Miami to join the "dream team".

The fact is...if you are a small market team...you need 4 great draft's in a row....and then you have 4-5 years to win a title...after that...those guys are off to greener pastures. There are only so many Kevin Durants out there. For every Durant...there are 40 guys who want to play in big markets...but don't want to sacrifice the $ either.

Again, how is Miami a big market team?

It is a desirable place to be. It has no state tax. They are bank-rolled by a multi-billionaire who is willing to invest in the team.

Why else would James and Bosh go down there....oh Dwayne Wade is there as well.

Where would you want to be? Miami...or Cleveland, Memphis, Houston, OKC, Charlotte, NO...

So really it has nothing to do with them being in a big market?

You are wrong if you think Miami is a small market team equivalent to that of a Memphis etc.

Is it Chicago, LA or New York...well no of course not.

But the size of the market is more than aided by the fact it is desirable climate, no state tax and ownership willing to poor millions into it.

On top of that...advertisers love Miami. Just like they love Brooklyn. Why is it that Lebron's sponsorship revenue has increased since he arrived in Miami just last year?

On top of that if you had the same amount of money 5 years, 80m from Miami, Cleveland, Memphis, NO where would you be?
