In an interview on the Eels' official site posted yesterday, the club's assistant coach Brad Arthur said one of the issues with Sandow in recent weeks had been his tackling. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226339248231

lol , derrrr , this was well known for the last couple of years at Souths , partly addressed there. What happenned to , "we paid overs for Sandow to have a real half for attack" , lol

we only give a star recruit a couple of weeks to perform, how long do we give a rookie coach?

SK should be judged on this move, he may well be making the tough decisions, not knowing what is going on behind the scenes, but if it fails this season, the board will need to make the tough decision also.

Yes Sandow played like ahit against the sharks and newcastle. And yes I said he should piss off after the Cronulla game but never thought he'd be dropped. Hopefully he pulls his finger out. Gutsy move by Kearney!!! But I now think we have no chance on Sunday. Two things can happen from here re Sandow. One is he'll crumble even further and he leaves the club and the other is he'll pull his finger out and start playing.

Still shocked.

Yes agree that it could go two ways. Big call by Kearney. I like it that he is prepared to make the big calls.

I think this is the last throw of the dice of a desperate man. If it doesnt work and things turn pear shaped and Sandow goes walkabout, then I think Kearney will be shown the door

Interesting burts back this week. is it we needed a kicker.

Not only can he kick goals but if we get an injury to any of the halves or hooker he can probably fill into one of those roles, giving is 4 players on the bench. I predict that we will play 4 forwards and only 3 will get a run....

Actually the Facebook Q&A said that Sandow needs a minder and Brad Arthur replied that each player needs to play as a team and look out for each other. He did not highlight Sandow and having poor defence.

Mark Geyer: Stop Blaming Chris Sandow For Parramatta Eels Performance
Post by: The Grill Team 27 April, 2012 - 9:30 AM

Mark "MG" Geyer has some strong advice for the ailing Parramatta Eels in the wake of the news that the Eels' major off-season buy, former Rabbitohs halfback Chris Sandow will take no part in the NRL this weekend. Instead, Sandow will play reserve grade team, the Wentworthville Magpies.

"I've got a message for Parramatta," Triple M's Mark "MG" Geyer said emphatically this morning.

"Stop listening to outside influences. You've paid for this bloke. You paid big money for him. He's not the worst player in the competitition, he's not the worst player in your team."

"He seems to be a little bit of a scapegoat, every time something goes wrong, let's blame Chris Sandow."

"He's not the bloke who's up front not making metres. He's not the bloke missing tackles. He's your halfback... I can't believe the way he's being treated," MG stated.

"I thought in the best month MG, that he was their best player," Triple M's Matty Johns chipped in.

"You've got to play him, he's their spark. If he has a big day out, they could beat the Tigers. When you have Casey McGuire at halfback, it's almost like you're picking a side not to be beaten by too much," Matty added.

If I'm in the Tigers, looking at the opposition team, and they've got Casey McGuire or Chris Sandow, I know who I'm going to be more worried about," MG concluded.

I am not sure how to put into words the exasperation or disbelief that I'm feeling. I have suspected that Kearney is a poor manager (on top of being a sub-standard coach). If Sandow was training with Wenty as an extra session for his defence I'd understand, but to drop Sandow to Wenty and to put McGuire in at halfback is just unbelievable.

Frankly, its just as unbelievable as having only one real hooker for this season and playing McGuire as a backrower.

Dropping Sandow wont build confidence in him or the team. It will just show how badly off track things are at the Eels - if the 6-1 losing start to the season hadn't given that away.

I think that Stephen Kearney is the worst thing to ever happen to the Eels. Worse than the Lyon defection, the 2001 grand final loss, the 2009 loss to the cap cheating Melbourne Storn and the '98 loss to the Dogs. In fact, if you put all of those things together it wouldn't even come close to Kearney.

I think the boofhead MG and the adulterer Matt Johns are spot on.
Yet last year he persisted with Robson at halfback and we weren't scoring points now we have attacking off the cuff halfback which he signed and he drops him after he has been one of the best few players in the team so far this season after he has played a style that doesn't suit the halfs style of play. Fair dinkum!
So is this dropping because of form or has something happened outside of footy and it's a disipline thing?
Really it's gone from one extreme to the other with info from our club.
And also while I'm having a whinge why doesn't the Great SK go on facebook questions instead of sending one of his lacky's?
Seems to me he thinks he is above the club and the fans with his attitude.

We don't know and if it was the case you would think the club would say it was a old photo or something.
Wasn't communication going to fixed up under 3P?

No Casey was a good footballer a few years back. He might be a good 20-30 min hooker now, but he's not an 80 minute halfback. Kearney seems to have forgotten that McGuire was playing very well for us at hooker until he was made 5/8 in 2011. Then his effectiveness deteriorated.

Parramatta halfback Chris Sandow is in doubt after sitting out the Eels' session yesterday before their clash against Wests Tigers on Sunday. Sandow's nursing a shoulder injury which forced him from the field against Cronulla a fortnight ago.
A virus has spread through the Tigers camp but the side is expected to be 1-17 for the match at Parramatta Stadium.

Interesting take on matters.

I don't think that's fair ... he's just past it and isn't being used particularly effectively.

And I definitely know who I'd be picking between Sandow and McGuire. His past it yes which make's him not good enough anymore. Over the hill time to move on. Putting him in 7 is the worst thing we could do TBH.

Well fair enough that people are asking questions - but I gotta say I feel sorry for Kearney right now!

Some of the things he is being accused of here are shambolic!

Bottom line is that we need to win some games. If we win this game against the Tigers, then he's sent a very clear message that no matter who you are, you aren't above being dropped - play good footy or don't play first grade.
If you want to blow up about what he's done, then by all means go for your life --> however at least wait until we lose the game to the Tigers before you do so (based on what we've seen so far, that seems likely....)

I cannot believe this.

I thought Sandow looked pretty good the first few weeks, the last few has dipped for him, but to be dropped, surely not.

Is Kearney starting to listening to past players and the media, when it comes to team selection? because it a huge sign of weakness and having no F***ing idea.

So i guess Sandow will be used as this years scapegoat.........

Agree. It is not Sandows fault that no-one in our side has a clue how to run off him. He keeps looking but there is never anyone there.

There are quite a few blokes going worse than Sandow imo.

Kearney's desperate.

Sandow's "lack of form" is really just a lack of combinations with the backline around him so far - a backline which SK seems to chop and change every week. A half-back can't be held fully responsible for forming those combinations - a coach has to have something called a game plan, and some little things called ideas, and a coach has to take responsibility for imparting them to a team and training players week to week on that basis.

Sandow, Hayne, Roberts and Burt (probably our best four attacking thinkers) are yet to play in the same line-up so far this season - and Kearney drops Sandow when he has the first chance for them all to train and play together and see if they can get the result! I have never seen a coach that delivers so little to our side's on field performances as Kearney, in my 26 seasons of being a season ticket holder at the stadium, and in my 8 seasons of attending games before that. The five year plan is a farce, and should take second fiddle to one year plans that every first grade coach needs to have so they can get the best out of the squad they inherit and get the privilege to slowly build.

Hopefully the desperation of dropping Sandow indicates that the Board has had a chat with SK and holds him responsible for achieving some professional results with this squad sooner rather than later. The pity is that the Sandow dropping ahead of our most winnable game of the season seems to show that SK wouldn't have a clue how to get results for the team, or get the best out of the players he's recruited. Kearney's first grade win ratio sadly speaks volumes... the coach is the weakest link.
