Michael Cheika would have been interesting experiment 5 years ago not now, another mass exodus if appointed.
I am sick to death of these f**king journos sticking their filthy pours into this situation, the majority of BOD have a IQ of 100 combined, they would read it and think oh yes what a great option.
We need Shane Flanagan or Des Hasler simple as that!!!!

Agree. I'm not convinced by Cheika. Yes he would be a great motivator, good people person, might be OK at developing players. Not convinced he could develop team plans and strategies (not that the last three coaches could do that either). My biggest issue is that I see him as being totally ill-equipped to deal with the dysfunctional board and management currently in place, and dealing with the politics of the joint venture. Of the current names put forward, I reckon only Hasler or Flanagan would have that ability.

I personally believe that Michael Cheika is in the same mould as Bennett & Bellamy. He’s a motivator driven to make men better and highly successful.
He is the type of leader that would turn a club around off the field as well by engaging with corporate sponsors & fans. He’s a wonderful speaker at the highest level and will attract dollars & attention to our struggling club that scream for leadership.

Our bunch of merkins will probably overlook him as he won’t compete with Dean Young and his bloodlines.
What about a role in the footy dept?

Could maybe see a Director or GM of Football to lead the organisation.
I couldn’t see him being under the direction of Ben Haran, who couldn’t motivate my Grandsons to leave school early.
A decent Head Coach should surround himself with the best Assistants anyway, and these blokes do the actual football & skills coaching.

Reading some news.com / fox sports articles this morning I see the dribbling idiots on NRL 360 last night were spouting that we "must sign Flanagan or Hasler"... seems to be flowing into this forum. I get they both have good claims for the gig and I'd be able to get on board with them... but why "MUST" it be them? Neither are exactly a guaranteed salve and each have a few reasons why they'd be a bad choice. Cheika, also, has reasons he'd be a bad choice... but I like the depth and breadth of his coaching record, and I especially like that he'd be a bold choice. Something daring, and out of the box. This club used to be good at that type of thing

Create a new role for him above Haran. If Haran is the knuckle-head everyone says he is, Cheika would sort that situation in about 1 week.

I think Richo needs to be lured away from Firehawks.

He will get the ducks in a row at the front and back office.

Get the right people into the key positions apart from coach.

Broncos are recruiting well atm, they have good people to purge.

Just no more buying back the farm for nostalgic reasons. We did and it sucks. Purgatory. Step out into the world dragons, no fear.

If you listen to him commentate our games he’s quite often saying that they need to have a game plan to capitalise on his skills.
Spot on blacksafake. I have been harping on about this all season. He does have skills, such as vision which you dont teach but is being hamstrung by our constant lack of attacking structure, too flat in attack, too compressed in defense, which creates poor discipline and loss of possession. He does like being close to the ball, often at dummy half or first receiver trying to get something going. If he has one fault in his makeup at this early stage of his career it is that he sometimes tries a little too hard and oversteps himself.

Luring him away is a good idea but probably not realistic. He started his club administration career at Brisbane Easts so to achieve the acceptance of the Firebirds into the NRL would be his crowning glory.

Bullsh*t aside the pickings are f*cking slim.

We're so f*cking desperate, any name that pops up in the media that has any coaching experience seems enticing.
We're basically playing in the higher levels of Frogger.

That's how f*cking bad things are.

I don't think any of names raised are worthy.

If Young is appointed Coach expect another Five years of misery, 2.5 years of 35% win/loss, then another sacking, then another dumb rookie appointment.
Currently I dont watch any games, why watch was loss after loss.
Shane Flanagan is ready to go, get it done!
Young, like his father, simply hasn’t got the communication skills to get into a 24 year olds head.

Shane Flanagan believes he can set up the Dragons for ''long-term success”.

No more pussy footing around FO, appoint him now if the Eagles let him leave. Have to say tho, what kinda people do we have running this club when we now will have to pay out the Eagles for him when we had him on our payroll only months ago.

I agree with your - "Broncos are recruiting well atm, they have good people to purge" comment, Silverdale.

They have balanced out their squad really well for now and the future and have several guys in their juniors ready to take the reins one day. They have signed Fletcher Baker to add to their forwards depth and strength. "The Broncos have confirmed the signing of Roosters forward Fletcher Baker on a two-year contract from next season. Baker, 23, will shift north to Brisbane after making his debut for the Roosters in 2021".

When I look at our former players in the 50's and 60's we had a similar type of squad with great forwards and great backs View attachment 75176.

Having the right players in their rightful positions and having the right people behind them to ensure that they "own" their positions by playing great footy in every game they play.

It is obvious that the Dragons current crop of players are middle of the range and there are only a couple of worthwhile players to keep and there are a couple of young guys being a work in progress and just maybe going to a higher level if their overall abilities are honed and perfected.

The Dragons need much better forwards and stronger, faster backs. We need trainers and conditioners who can build the guys up so that they don't run out of puff and play for 110 minutes not just 80 minutes.

The new coach has to know this and I feel that he would but has to put these things into effect.

The way that the competition is at the moment if any team can be playing consistently well, they will have success. All of the top 8 teams are beatable - just look at how the Cowboys for instance thrashed the Storm and look at how the Tigers thrashed the Cowboys.

A lot of teams have suffered and lost games because of injuries and suspensions. No matter who the coach is, if you don't have the players available to fill in their rightful positions, then the team is weakened and able to be beaten.

We are waiting to be informed of the new coach but he is not the only important person that we have to get (we could have Bellamy, Bennett etc to sign up) but without the right personnel on the field, supports, fitness etc., we don't go anywhere.

Listening to Flanno on 2GB, the Dragons would be mad not to sign him. He sound genuine, keen and has a proven record of success. Talks himself up but for good reason, since he left Sharks have still been a force so he set them up well from pathways up. He ticks all the boxes. The pathways bit and how he left the Sharks in good shape clearly has the points on Hasler. He leaves a mess behind.

Buzz on NRL 360 said he will not interview against others, if you want me come and get me more or less. Hopefully once Dragons talk to his Manager it will just be a matter of getting him to sign off on the paperwork.

I heard from another pod, Ryles was a done deal and was literally at the car park on his way to sign the contract. Then something happened from the carpark to the office that changed his mind. Apparently it will come out later. Whether this is true or not I am sure but we will find out I suppose. If Saints sign Flanno who cares in the end, as Saints got the safer option imo for fixing the mess and getting success more quicker which is what we need.
