Who is the NRL to dictate the Show?
They Forced the greatest club of all time to merge with a hapless two dollar leagues club,
With Zero premierships.
Oh yes, the history of every rugby league club would make the 12 apostles look embarrassing.
Shane Flanagan is the Man!
True. Peak bodies tend to become pains in everyone's butts.
We're not without options (yet).
I lived in Gymea when the merger happened and commuted through Kogarah every day. I recall telling my wife that it would never work and that there would be a civil war. These things always take decades longer than I expect.
Chickens come home to roost, but they take forever!

Also. What about this merkin? What dark corner of Facebook did you fellas have to trawl to find this standard of member?

Standards are really slipping around here.

Yes, well, that's been my argument all along re Flanno - except I changed my mind on reflection, recently, because I've satisfied myself (in desperation I think) that Flanno would have to be 'squeaky clean' and uber-careful if he returns to a head coach role.

However, this is a real problem:

"The NRL’s statement concluded by saying Flanagan “has been told the NRL will give no consideration to expediting his return to a head coaching role beyond today’s decision”. And that’s where matters rest. Above the line, at least."

It could be saying the NRL wouldn't be letting him come back to a HC role very soon after the decision (ie; not expediting). It could also be interpreted as saying that the NRL won't ever tolerate Flanno as a head coach again. We could find ourselves in a situation of appointing him only for the NRL to kibosh it ie; yet more delay and embarrassment. Presumably, if StGI wish to appoint Flanno, they will have to get the NRL's concurrence beforehand. If the NRL says 'no', which could otherwise be seen as contradicting its previous position, then we'll be back to square one.

It's enough to do your head in. I sincerely hope our BOD and CEO have considered all of this with great diligence.

God I hope they have a really positive announcement about this situation in the very near future. It's gone beyond a joke.

Meanwhile anyway, I reckon Carr is doing OK. Even if he stays in the HC role and they make sweeping changes and great appointments to the recruitment, training and development functions I'd be ecstatic.
Surely if there was an issue the NRL would have already advised the club not to pursue Flanagan before any talks took place.
Flanagan is also on record saying he’s keen & has been in talks with the club so you’d expect the NRL would have vetoed it by now.

Makes you wonder why the article was written at this time.

Makes you wonder why we were gazumped at the last minute with Bellamy in 2012 and Bennett in 2015 to be condemned with McGregor for an extended period.

I love a good conspiracy theory.

That’s a good point.

The article said he was allowed to be an assistant coach only, so presumably the club would have to seek an assurance from the nrl about his eligibility before appointing him.

We know he didn’t approach the dragons himself because he said he wouldn’t.

He’d have to be the front runner then, because I can’t imagine the club seeking his services if he wasnt allowed.

They really don’t want to appoint him and then seek clearance. That’s back to front.

Whatever it says, even if it’s true, it’s a hatchet job for sure. The timing and everything.

It could be one of the other candidates managers ringing up a mate.

Although given the amount of interest in the SGI replacement, it could also be just click bait.

Mass media can’t survive without berserker headlines to try to sell product.

I was looking at the ownership of the smh ( anti Flanno) and 2gb (pro-Flanno) and they both seem to be owned by nine entertainment.

So I can’t see a conglomerate media wrestle.

The win position might tell us more with their massive influence and disproportionate representation on the sgi board.

I doubt win are going to get a set against Flanno if he’s in the mix. Instead he’s going to be the second coming of Bellamy and his shady past forgiven.

Doesn’t reflect on his coaching if he gets the gig, he may well lead the club to glory. I don’t know, no one does.

Whoever is appointed, you can bet there will be all kinds of trumpets, streamers and fanfare. Massive selling of the hope and promise. That’s what we got. Hopefully you do better than us. That wouldn’t be too hard tbh.

Like I said before, for whatever reason everyone wants to put the boot in and I’m sick of it. The man has payed his dues. I just want them to announce Flannigan ASAP so we can get back to being a competitive team

Manly did very well tonight against Bennett's team. Their attack was brilliant and they have speed to burn. If we get Flanagan, I hope he has been part of the attacking arrangements and identified that speed wins games.

We need speedy players - it's a no brainer. Fitness and speed trainers needed as well.

Speed provides excitement. It is essential and we have got to have speed men in the backs and forwards.
