I would love to see this happen (despite hating Brothers).

I think in an ideal world they would aline themselves with Easts (who were looking for a partner to come into the NRL with).

It would solve a bit of the money problem, and have a team based on the southside of Brisbane which would a good marketing strategy against the Broncos.

There is a Brothers club on the southside, St Brendan's at Rocklea. But it's very small and only supports a second division team or two.

But ideally a second Brisbane team would be based on the southside/west. If there was any strategic or geographical sense to the way in which clubs were set up we would have a team representing the northside, Sunny Coast and Wide Bay (and maybe CQ), and a team representing the southside, Logan, Ipswich and South West Division (Toowoomba etc). Then there's the Gold Coast/Northern Rivers.

I posted this rough map in one of the other threads last year showing where the three potential SEQ teams would represent.

Obviously the Broncos are the northside team and the Titans are the GC team, so the new one would need to be southside. The current bids don't really achieve this. Western Corridor is too Ipswich based and will not cover the southside. The other bids are based north of the river.

I don't know if Logan Brothers are affiliated with the others. They don't wear butcher stripes. They wear green and gold.

Without wanting to sound naive or ignorant who are the Brothers? I know there are Brothers clubs everywhere but who are they? A christian group?

THE man who helped build the Gold Coast Suns has launched an audacious bid to turn Queensland's famed Brothers Leprechauns into an NRL club.

Meet Justin Barlow, a veteran administrator intent on delivering what he described as a "world sporting first" to Brisbane

Barlow is adamant the reach of the Confraternity of Brothers can compete against the might of the Broncos.

A Brothers NRL club would be based at the Grange in the old offices of the defunct Crushers club.

Brothers were a force in Queensland rugby league for decades, winning their last Brisbane premiership in 1987.

They struck financial trouble in the late 1990s and after a failed merger with Valleys, were kicked out of the competition at the end of 2004.

Barlow has already met with former NRL executive Colin Love, seeking advice on preparing his bid.

Tell us your best Brothers memories below

He is halfway through a feasibility study which he is adamant will prove the club would be a success in the NRL.

The franchise would have a large reach through the Brothers network and deliver a pathway from under-7s to an NRL team.

Player and administration vacancies would be primarily filled through former Brothers juniors, a list that includes Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston and Corey Parker.

"Our fan base will be rugby league fans who yearn for more traditional elements of the game to be reintroduced," Barlow told The Courier-Mail.

"The pre-Broncos fans, we want to engage those people.

"We are doing this for regional rugby league fans and Brisbane Rugby League fans.

"Our understanding is there is no club worldwide that has their under-7s through to elite level under one banner."

Brisbane Brothers play in sub-districts competition and are based at Gibson Park in Stafford.

Cities with Brothers clubs and juniors teams include Cairns, Mackay, Ipswich, Townsville and Gladstone.

"Brothers clubs are in 14 cities, three states and 40 affiliate clubs," Barlow said.

"We have an inbuilt fan base of 200,000 through Brothers clubs."

NRL chief executive David Smith is committed to expanding the code and recently named southeast Queensland as an area crying out for another team.

In 18 months, the ARL Commission will narrow the field of expansion contenders and then later grant two licences for a 2018 entry.

The Brothers' proposal will be competing in southeast Queensland against the Western Corridor and Brisbane Bombers bids for entry to the NRL. Perth is a certainty to be granted a licence.

A Brothers team would be based at Suncorp Stadium, but also play games in regional markets where there is a strong Brothers influence.

Barlow worked for the Suns from 2010 until late last year.

Me and my dad played for brothers in toowoomba, would immediately become "my club" if this came to fruition.

Nothing there yet on the site but lets hope it develops, being so far northside I don't think will be a problem for this Bid. They are clearly different to the Broncos unlike the Bombers, also have a good spread of 9 clubs in the Brisbane & Ipswich area alone. Any non-broncos RL followers esp ones who follow Sydney teams would have a better chance following them than the Bombers. It would have a nostalgia attached to it, plus a strong consistent Jersey to boot. Anyway lets see how it goes..

Yeah , interesting bid.

I really like the Brisbane base with connections to other parts of the state.

9 Brisbane home games the rest spread out the state would be really cool.

I like this bid over the Bomb-outs, their whole approach just seemed slapped together.

This is a very interesting bid, I really like the idea of kids being able to play for one club starting at under 5s/6s all the way up to the NRL.

Very cool idea but I'm not really sure how it would work, their could be some rather large legal problems around some of their ideas especially around player signing of kids from one of their own clubs, but still I'm all for it if they can get around those legal problems.

I would not be surprised if their are a couple more surprise bids by old faces from around Brisbane and I will be very interested to see how things progress.

I'd be interested to see their business plan but could be the grassroots bid people seem to have been asking for.

The fact that they couldn't financially sustain a q'land cup team doesn't bode well for them.

Some more info

One big plus would be if they adopted Darwin and the NT as their second city, committed to playing a trial and 2 games a year there and linked up with the NTRL. They need to leave cairns to the cowboys. Any Brisbanites tell us if they would be accepted by followers of other Brisbane clubs?

Can anyone explain why the leprechaun, what's the link with Ireland?
