In this new world order even if he didn't make contact with the head it would be a suspension because it was clearly a shoulder charge.

Everyone knows what is and what isn't a shoulder charge.

Define it for us please, exactly what should be penalised.

I'd guess half of the players penalised/suspended during 2012 for hitting a player in the head with their shoulders did so whilst making a tackle, as opposed to a typical shoulder charge. Can't see how the banning of the shoulder charge will make 1 iota of difference.

We know prowler shoulder chargers should be banned - and have been

We know we can't attack the head of a player

We know we can hit the knees of a opponent

Then we run into grey ground when two big men run at 30 kmph and impact each other at a combined 60 kmph collision

Many times a shoulder is used to brace for impact - either tackler or ball carrier

Who then is a fault of the shoulder charge ??

It clearly won't. And this is exactly why the whole premise of this argument is ridiculous. It's based on the idea that a. shoulder charges cause injury, and b. there needs to be a rule to prevent this. Firstly, shoulder charges do not cause injuries, contact with the head does. Secondly, contact with the head is already banned. And in addition, contact with the head continues to happen, in all manner of ways, as a result of a tackle. Yet they aren't banning the tackle. It makes no sense.

Shoulder charges do cause damage, even when the head is not directly impacted. That is the main reason they should be banned.

What damage does it cause and what evidence are you basing that on? Frankly you rarely if ever see any injuries from shoulder charges and outside of some research we stole from the NFL (which is completely irrelevant) i haven't seen anything that proves the long term impact.

Oh ffs you dinosaurs still defending the shoulder charge are needlessly complicating things. Everyone knows what a shoulder charge is. If it looks like, smells like and quacks like a duck. It's a duck.

Go on then, define exactly what is going to be banned and what is going to be allowed next season.

Aw diddums you tosser! Regardless of your thoughts on the decision, it think advice from doctors will outweigh advice from a coach.

Advice from doctors should definitely not outweigh advice from a coach on rugby league matters.

f**k doctors.

Probably will have to go the Union route whereupon if a player doesn't make a reasonable attempt to use their arms in a tackle then they will be penalized. Occasionally something akin to a shoulder charge can result but as long as a player at least looks like he's using his arms then it may pass muster. Basically - all shoulder and no arms equals instant penalty. Shoulder plus arms equals interpretation time.

And interpretation time means more whinging from fans because there'll be no consistency.

ARLC definition clarifies nothing in my eyes

“Where a defender, without attempting to tackle, grab or hold the ball-carrier (or any opposing player) using the arms or hands, makes direct physical contact using the shoulder or the upper arm (tucked into the side).”

Interesting that it's only a defender that must not shoulder charge, means the Inglis hit on Sandow is 2 weeks for Sandow on the sideline yet nothing for Inglis, peculiar.

It seems quite straight-forward, you need to be seen to have the intension to tackle properly with the arm in the vicinity of coming around to tackle the player, you need to use the top of the shoulder, or you can grab the jersey with your hand and pull someone to the floor of course.

So you can't do what Greg Inglis did to Dean Young, which as you know is tuck your arm into your side tightly and use the outside of your body to smash someone.
