ok now read this very, very slowly, if you are not happy and think that RL in australia will be worse off and still not the greatest game of all because one small part of it has been banned go and watch another sport wether it be AFL, soccer or anything else

as for the second part FMD use your comprehension skills

I'll re-frame from personal insults. I wouldn't want to be drawn down to that level. Although I would be careful about having a go at someone for comprehension skills with your spelling.

However, you have made the same error. People are complaining that Rugby League won't be as tough as it was without the shoulder charge. Not saying I agree with them but your solution of watching the AFL, Soccer or anything else will result in such a person watching a sport that's less tough than Rugby League (with or without the shoulder charge).

A line that would get your obvious point across would be "if you don't like the changes being made to Rugby League, watch another sport".

Went to the Parra/Newcastle trial yesterday.

The little Parra forward who tackled Grant Denyer on Sunrise, the 18 year old kid, put a massive shoulder on one of the even bigger Knights forwards in the second half from a kick-off. It was one of the highlights of the game, not high or dangerous in any way. Bloody refs penalised it.

This rule is going to really piss people off this year.

The players should just ignore the referees - if a ref blows a penalty for a shoulder charge, merely get up and play the ball where you are as if you'd been tackled normally. If you're up to 4 tackles, take one more and play your 5th tackle option even if the ref is trying to tell you its the second tackle.

Eventually they'll have to give in and allow the big hits back into the game.

I want to know when they're going to ban tackling down low. From what I saw last year, going in low and getting your head in the wrong place is a disaster for player safety and always leads to concussion. They should ban it. Tackling should be done by going up to the opposition and politely asking him to stop running and play the ball. That way no one will get hurt. :?

Remember the try saving shot Mareka Koriebete put on Sandow last year ? its f**ked to know he would be now penalised for a great legit shot. This is going to add another stupid grey area into a game which is already littered with them. :(
Im not looking forward to it one bit.

Just attach flags to their shorts and minimise all risk, except breaking a finger nail as you snatch the flag which we will have to decide if acceptable or not?

If that happened to a Greg Inglis or a Ben Te'o or a Fui Fui Moi Moi in the regular season and it cost a team 2 points, the shitstorm would be beyond anyones comprehension.

That's what we should all hope for.

I feel no shame whatsoever in hoping the shoulder charge ban ruins games.

Yeah the world might end as we know it.

Settle down ladies, life will go on - any penalty can change a game, say - not playing the ball with your foot etc. If it doesn't (shoulder charge) do serious damage to the tackled player, it will just be another penalty like so many others.

The game will go on - game on.

f**k, with my history, I don't need men in white coats to encourage me to neck a truck load of meds.

I know that what I suggested will never happen - I was taking the pish. But I hope that something happens to ensure its return.

The reasons giving for banning it are ridiculous in the extreme - especially when text book tackles end up in more concussions than shoulder charges.

I am a massive fan of NFL and some of the penalties given in that game for the most innocuous tackles are beyond ridiculous yet people, including me still watch. I think that the same will occur with the NRL. However the NFL is much poorer in my opinion for the rule changes and I believe the NRL will be the same. Yes we'll still watch, yes there will be still be greatness but the game will be poorer and we'll all lament.

Like Adam, I hope something happens that is so bad it forces a turnaround on this issue - but I'm not holding my breath.

Shoulder charges aside, the NRL should not be allowed to fiddle with the rules on their own anyway. Imo we should all play by the international rules of the game.

No, it isn't.

And despite the poms being rubbish at RL, they certainly have more respect for the laws of the game than the esteemed ARLC...

This.
The NRL need to remember that Rugby League was a sport long before they made it an entertainment business. They need to stop fiddling with rules that affect more than their top tier competition.

Can someone explain the justification for banning the shoulder charge in ameteur and semi pro comps?

The "players are become bigger and faster" nonsense doesn't even apply here.
