That article is a load of shit. The rule wasn't made because they thought it would be popular, so it being unpopular is irrelevant.

And anyone who thinks Rugby League needs the shoulder charge to be entertaining doesn't really love Rugby League and should f**k off and watch something else.

I'm guessing you weren't at the all stars game? The two biggest crowd buzz moments were the two big shoulder charges. It's why people pay $50+ to see the game live.

If its so bad and opens up such law suit potential why hasn't the NFL banned it given their well publicised tackle problems? I'll tell you why A) it isn't that dangerous and B) it's what the crowd want to see.

f**k no. It'll be gone by the beginning of the finals series at the latest. Now that I've seen it in practice on George Rose, I have no doubts left that it's a disgrace. G.I got away with one so there's the inconsistency.

You can't tell the difference between GI's & Rose's tackles? I thought it was clear.

They will figure out a way to rule it properly. The rose hit on Morris was awesome and a pretty safe hit. But the inglis one on young was dangerous

Reserve it and you'll be correct.

The ruling can f*ck right off, as can the new CEO

Have any reason to attack our CEO?

It is never going away. The rule was not a rule change made to please fans or for some kind of superficial reasons. It was made because it is a necessity, it is a sign of the times.

The ban didn't happen to please some keyboard warriors on LU. So it won't be tossed out because they're displeased.

The rule wasn't brought in to please you?

Doctors have advised that there is a link between shoulder charges and brain damage..

Really? Show me the research and the evidence that states the direct link between a Rugby League Shoulder charge and brain damage.

I'd love to shoulder charge BM.

Right to the head.

Inglis style.

Help him out a bit.

It's hard work being young and knowing everything.

The difference between the Inglis hit and the Rose hit was the Inglis one was a lot harder, much more 'G force' and would have hurt the attacking player a hell of a lot more than the little bump put on Morris who was about to get back up and run.

Considering the rule was brought in because of some shit about g force and subconcussions and brain damage and then the softer hit is the one penalised...there's the ridiculous problems the rule caused, the problems we all know would happen.

I said it a hundred times but a driving shoulder tackle into your guts then slamming into the ground hurts a lot more than a bloody shoulder charge. A shoulder charge is mainly just a bump off on to the ground, usually the player can get back up and run again straight away.

Not surprised that one game into the season we've already seen a shoulder charge penalised and there's huge question marks over it.

I have no problem with the George Rose one.

Rugby League’s International Federation has banned the ‘shoulder charge’ from international competitions around the world.
“As we look forward to an incredibly exciting season for the game, culminating in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, reviewing rules such as the shoulder charge is an important part of ensuring we have created the right environment for our players,” RLIF Chairman, Mr Scott Carter, said.

“Player safety is a fundamental principle and the latest research and current trends show that the shoulder charge has the potential to create an unacceptable risk of injury for players.” Where a season has already started, including the European Super League, the domestic governing body will be able to decide if an immediate ban should be implemented or if the ban should come into force at the end of the current season.

The ban will be in effect for this weekend’s World Club Challenge and the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. The Australian Rugby League Commission had previously outlawed the shoulder charge at the end of last year while New Zealand already had a ban in place in its domestic competition.

This is b.s. I hope it gets overturned soon. The All Stars game already looked impotent without shoulder charges.

What's better than two guys lining each other up, one running as hard as he can at the other one standing his ground and trying to hit each other as hard as possible?

And to make matters worse this RLIF ruling apparently means that NO competition anywhere in the world can have shoulder charges anymore. It doesn't just apply to international games, but to ALL games. So the Super League will also be banning them. As will the CRL (in fact they have officially done so as of this week also).
