Current Australian Internationals or Origin players (As of last year) signed to Souffs:

Campbell Graham, Jack Wighton, Cameron Murray, Latrell Mitchell, Jai Arrow, Damien Cook

Roosters (Who are apparently always over the cap)

James Tedesco, Daniel Tupou, Lindsay Collins, Angus Crichton

---

Hmm...where's big Gordon Tallis with the scoop?

There’s some mediocre names there. Being a Rep player sure isn’t what it used to be.

Okay, lets count Kiwis, Poms and Islanders:

Roosters:

Tedesco, Tupou, Suaalii, Manu, Hargreaves, Smith, Collins, Crichton, Radley

Total: 9

Souffs:

Latrell Mitchell, Campbell Graham, Damien Cook, Jai Arrow, Jack Wighton, Cameron Murray, Tom Burgess, Taane Milne, Tevita Tatola

Total: 9

---

If Roosters cheat the cap then so do Souffs.

I think MKCS’ point still stands

Let's see how many are still there next year though. Campbell Graham is off contract next year, Kolomantagi ( not on the list but close to rep footy) also off contract.
Burgess will get the tap on the shoulder.

Same with you guys. Tupou and Dom Young switch.

What should happen is teams should be made have Cap space BEFORE signing players.

There’s talk we may resign Jared for another year. He doesn’t play 80 mins anymore and certainly won’t be up for test selection so I wonder how his resigning (if it happens) will be viewed on here? I think I already know.

Sure. Who is policing that considering they don’t police it now?

I like Davey. Eels fans predictably shitting all over themselves trying to shit on the club for the signing, but he's slotting into the bottom of the top 30 and probably the bench/reserves.

Good bloke, no nonsense, will take the shit runs Paulo shouldn't be taking (and run them a lot harder than cat Cartwright) and a good defender

Of course it is policed but not every club has the same advantages or is as appealing as others.

happens in every sport in the world bigger clubs ( or bigger cities in NBA) have advantages over smaller ones.

Not sure of anyway to stop that

I think you are being slightly naive at this point.

The only way that salary cap scandals have been uncovered is through disgruntled ex employees or whistleblowers. It is nigh on impossible to police the current system properly. Also it is just in the self interest of clubs to cheat. I just don’t see with all of these factors in mind how anybody could be confident that everything is above board.

Seriously, we are an amateurish competition and it is about time we thought of something else other than saying to clubs pretty please don’t cheat.

I don't see a better alternative though, Even a draft system encourages teams to lose to try and sign a player. Even in that case x player still is free to go where they want after the inital deal

There is a salary cap auditor though. The problem is everyone wants perfection which is impossible.

Even in this case. Souffs have signed a 31 year old ( when he starts next year ) to play centre on $800k.

How many centres are on that? So it isn't even like he was signed on the cheap

You are not looking hard enough. We are the only competition in the world that uses a salary cap without a draft or something else in addition. Rugby League is one of the worst run competitions in the world (historically speaking) so somehow I fail to see how our game has uncovered a better system then everybody else.

Secondly, I never said a system has to be perfect (so don’t misquote me) however it has to be able to be policed. There has to be some transparency. A draft or a points system (which would be very hard to implement I know) is at least transparent despite its flaws. On the other hand, it is impossible to trace money - you simply can’t. Even if you were to have access to everybody’s bank account (which would be introducing privacy debates) that doesn’t stop people being given large sums of money by hand.

Also, this salary cap auditor (who you wanted to mention) has never actually uncovered systematic cheating - that’s a pretty big argument against the viability of a salary cap. If the mechanism you put in can’t prevent it, then simply what is your point?

So essentially, all up you have is a system that is impossible to police properly and which is based on some kind of proverbial pinky square of clubs promising not to cheat.

Btw you must be more optimistic about human nature then I am. People will always bend the rules looking for an advantage.
