Danny Wicks | AAP The Knights have signed Dragons front rower Danny Wicks to a deal extending until the end of the 2010 season in a move to counter a potential player exodus under coach Brian Smith.
Wicks has played nine matches for the Dragons and has become a consistant performer in a St George Illawarra pack struggling for depth.
While Knights back-rower Reegan Tanner was considering becoming the second Newcastle player to request a release from the Knights mid-season, the club announced late yesterday they had signed Wicks and are on the hunt for more Dragon's stars.
The Newcastle club has been strongly linked with Wicks's front row teammate Jason Ryles and centre Wes Naiqama.

With the injury, he wouldn't be able to command to many $ so it could be a smart buy... either he'll be a handy backup at an appropriate price or if he comes good after the recovery then it would be a bonus. He seems to have good go forward but I didn't notice if he had any aggression in defence?
The Raiders have now released four players this season, Irwin joining centre Craig Frawley (Brisbane Broncos), forward Andrew Lomu (Brisbane Broncos) and former Parramatta junior Tony Pamatangi (Albury).
Irwin and Pamatangi did not play one game for the Raiders in any grade.

Cross to sign with the Knights?

Newcastle is well on the way to replenishing its forwards stocks with aggressive Storm prop Ben Cross tipped to move to the Hunter club from next season onwards.
A source close to the Newcastle camp has revealed that the 28-year old former Raiders giant will become the second top grade forward to officially commit to the Knights since the recent exodus of players following coach Brian Smith's much publicised clean-out for next season.
The club has already lost popular second-rower Clint Newton to the Storm, while makeshift co-captain Adam Woolnough is off to Penrith in 2008 and fellow prop Josh Perry is rumoured to be heading to Brookvale.
The imminent Cross signing comes on top of the three-year deal with Dragons forward Danny Wicks and the possible pick up of troubled winger Wes Naiqama.
Eels forward Justin Tsoulos has also been mentioned as a possible Knights' target.
<UPtheEELS> said:Tsoulos may just need a change of scenery. He's not doing much here so why bother holding onto him.
The Colonel said:I'll just be on my way to training and then up to the Hunter, anyone want to come for a drive?
