After what I saw tonight the retail sector is going to be seeing massive layoffs soon. Went into my local Myer's tonight, was hardly anyone in there. I was buying a birthday present for my sister. The sale clerk told that her store had already laid off all the casuals but she said it had been dead all day. I at at the popular local cafe in the mall, which is normally heavingly full on a Thursday night - I was one of about 8 diners.

Its all well and good for people to call for a total lock down, but if it happens even for 2 weeks, many stores won't re-open after it as based on people's behaviour to date, they will still be panicking/scared about it so they won';t go out and buy anything. That is what will lead to a depression and massive unemployment. Then you won't have money for the rent or mortage, electricity, food. That's why calling for a complete lock down of the populace is sure fire trouble.

There has to be a balance. You can't have a full lockdown for months or half the country will be broke and we'll have as many problems as if we let the virus run rampant. On top of all the financial problems, mental health problems will go through the roof.

I sent several suggestions to the bosses on how to possibly keep the local comp here going if the ban is lifted in May or June, citing among other things the big toll on mental health (that is already a major problem in rural communities, we had 3 players commit suicide over the off-season) and how important it is that people have avenues like this to improve their health. Just as important as keeping them safe from the virus.

I’m up the coast at the moment and was supposed to be coming back to Sydney tomorrow to go to see A Chorus Line at the Darlinghurst Theatre but with the new laws taking effect it was cancelled so I have decided to stay up here ( Grassy Head ) for a few more days, last week went to an amazing restaurant called Hot Myrtle in the middle of nowhere and had the most amazing meal, seeing I was staying up here a few extra days we went to the restaurant again tonight, amazing again but as of next week they can only do take away, they already had a booked out degustation dinner for next Thursday but can’t do it now, sad because they seem such a lovely couple running the place, at least they own the business and building so they said they can roll with the changes for a while . Same earlier today when I had to cancel the accomodation I had booked in Melbourne next week, the guy who runs the B&B said he has had a 100 days worth of cancellations over the last week, another who owns his own business, no mortgage so for a while he can survive but not sure for how long, his B& B is around the corner from Lygon St and when I rang him he said he was sitting at the only cafe open on Lygon St, he said everything else was closed.

Watched the NRL press conference from earlier today.

Dont want to knock the bloke but I cant say PVL impresses much. Unpolished might be the best term.

Had to have a wry laugh when at around the 22 minute mark Todd gets a chance to say something, and Vlandys starts coughing up a lung into the microphone like he has a bit of corona himself.

Vlandy said "inter-action" instead of interaction and i stopped listening after that

Reading about Italy right now it’s pretty f**king grim. If we get like that here NRL going under is going to a be long way down the priority list, a long way.

my local has just started take aways. Some financial support to keep them going is a must and then some big stimulation funding when the doors reopen is going to be essential. Restaurant vouchers for every household!

I've noticed a lot of 'new' places show up on ubereats in my area, also ubereats have waved their fees to the restaurant according to an email. If people can afford it and their job is fairly safe going forward they should be supporting these businesses if they still want them to be there when all this blows over.

I just hope supply can keep up to keep these places running as best as possible.

Gutsy and selfless move by the club to stay in Australia while this mess is happening.

I now have a second team .

NRL getting some negative headlines again - now with backlash over team having access to Testing Kits despite not meeting the criteria that the general population has to meet.

If the NRL are using a private lab are they really taking test kits away from the public? Is it just the public system that is running low on the kits or Australia as a whole? Its hard to be critical of the NRL if they are paying a private lab to do testing but if the whole country is running low on kits then it is a bit off testing players with no symptoms.

Great proactive move by the NRL. The country needs a distraction right now, so I'm glad they aren't giving into the pressure to just shut up shop.

And all those sooks on Offsiders can get f**ked.

The NRL being on is a large-scale benefit to all NRL fans so I don't see any problem with NRL players having testing kits.

Why shut down just because? Because everyone else is? They're isolated, tested, there's no crowds - there's very little risk if it continues at the moment.

Sorry wibble but in the class room they can control the distance they can also follow a chain of infection if it exists.

My immediate family has 2 teachers (wife and one son) and thats just our opinion, right or wrong. But I am happy with the notion that the decisions are being based on those of a medical expert in the appropriate field, not me, not the media and especially not internet experts
