Not a surprise really, Victoria has been one of the strictest states with restrictions and I think the only one that hasn't started relaxing anything. The premier has made it clear he wont be relaxing or making any concessions until at least May 11, maybe after then the team will be allowed to return to AAMI park.

Has any announcement been made about where the games will be played? is it still all in one venue or wherever the teams are based (so Storm home games in Albury, Warriors in Tamworth/CC, etc.)

That's why the AFL is desperado to get their players in to hubs in NT, NSW or QLD where they'll be allowed to operate as the Vic Govt won't allow anything in Melbourne / VIC ATM. And funnily, the Vic players are reluctant to do it, so the AFL might end up screwing the pooch.

If Melbourne is off the table would be Canberra due to cost and difficulties fitting out grounds it will be limited what grounds used.

With the banning of crowds, would there be any thought to picking grounds across the states, that with appropriate professional facilities, also has visual appeal on TV, such as mountain backgrounds, coastal etc? Empty seats at the games, why not pick somewhere that has a potential for the best TV presentation?

in theory yes but somewhere like Brookvale Oval is open to the public so can’t be closed off to be safe for the players. Also depends if Media can get in from another part than the players.

A delicate situation at the moment with some players seemingly rubbing the public up the wrong way, it's a difficult situation to read. A little different to the attitude the Warriors are taking, being away from their families for a few months to sacrifice and get this show on the road again. The level of restrictions in NSW and QLD give the NRL greater flexibility in how they can manage the return.

The talk here is the likelihood of hubs for AFL teams to play games in across states where the exception is granted, 6-8 weeks has been the estimate and by that time the situation would be re-evaluated. NT have even wanted games as they have indicated a possibility of crowds being able to attend the games. NRL in the box seat regarding their options for the remainder of the year given the conditions across NSW and QLD.

There wouldn’t be too many grounds that would have adequate lighting or the right facilities for best camera angles without bringing in plenty of infrastructure. Someone would have to pick up the cost and the local councils that usually pay wouldn’t do so because there wouldn’t be the crowds.

NRL set a date, May 28 and essentially said failure is not an option.

AFL have struggled to set a date, the best they've got is June is 'plausible'.

The AFL's geographical issues are a big hurdle. Their lack of leadership is a bigger hurdle.

They'll need help from the Vic government, so stand by for a review of the "no special treatment" rule.

I'm saying we're better off without him (Greenberg).

I thought V'landys stumbled early when he came on TV with cap in hand. Wasn't a good look imo. But after that, and around the time of Greenberg's departure, there appeared to be some real direction. I know necessity is the mother of invention, but he appears to be well suited to deal with this type of crisis. Whether or not he is well suited when we come out the other side remains to be seen.
