^ What you say here is interesting. May you explain further please as I am interested to hear your thoughts.
1. Do you think Australia is on it's way to being monitored and censored to the extremes of China?
2. Or do you think that the Australian government is taking us (i.e., the citizens of Australia) for lackeys?
You only have to look at Conroy's internet censorship bill to know that is the way things are headed. I think Australians by and large are lackeys or have too much of a `she'll be right' attitude in that they are far too trusting of the establishment and that the establishment has their interests at heart. The establishment has the establishments interests at heart. Do they really think the blocking of a site will stop people going there ? Has prohibition of drugs stopped drugs ?
The iiNet case is a massive blow to the federal govt and law enforcement agencies as to what happens on the net as it basically said an IP Address is a router address and basically `any bugger logged into that router coulda done it my wifi was unsecured'. So what better way to control the net than to see who is looking at what.
Let's say a party knows an internet user votes one way or another. What is to stop the govt offering incentives, or ordering ATO audits as retribution etc etc etc ?
Look at how the governments around the world got down on hands and knees to suck the collective c**ks of the film and tv studios recently with SOPA. These same studios that were charging $30 for a CD back in 1990 (let's say $50 of today's money) and ripping off the man in the street. Now the tides have turned and everything is available freely on the net and they don't like being dicked by the little man so they go to court and try and sue the little man and/or the ISPs. TPG used to send cease and desist emails but did anyone heed them ? Did they f**k.
People will get around them. VPNs, seedboxes, anonymous trackers you name it, pay for nothing, steal everything and give these turds what is coming. Actors earning 20 mill a film will be a thing of the past when you can leech it the day it is released and the studio gets nothing. Even better is Rusty might be forced to sell soufs. What's not to love about this brave new world.
The next ones to be dicked and f**ked over will be the mega media companies like News. Do you really think the NBN is so aunty dot can load smh quicker on her pentium 2 ? Seriously ?? In Singapore they are rolling out Gigabit fibre connections as we speak (and there are no download limits on their plans). Fibre of such speeds (and like we are getting with the NBN) will cripple News, Time Warner etc. Why pay for fox when some bloke who has will stream it onto the net gratis. The telecomms companies are complicit in this ultra ultra high speed fibre rollout, the only effect of which will be to destroy FTA and cable TV platforms, mark my words.
Good old Telstra are charging me $2 a month more to go from 200GB @ 30mbps to 500GB @ 100mbps. Do they think LU and smh are the reason I wanna go to that level or do they probably know i wanna leech and download as much shit in a month as humanly possible ???
