Point taken about the automatic life sentence if you kill a cop. There might be a bit of theory/practice with that one though, and I'm not a criminal lawyers so don't know the laws surrounding that. Anyways, I'm off to watch MNF.

good luck. My team has already won :)

I tell you what you mugs, go to Arq where everyone is off their collective tits on ecstasy and tell me how much violence there is there and how many people are dead after chewing on a tab then go to scruffy murphy's and tell me how many punches are thrown by pissed blokes. Then tell me which is a more damaging drug.

Agreed, I f**ken hate alcohol. Hey no bullshit what's this 'Arq' place you're talking about, I wouldn't mind checking it out.

Why are NSW police media so keen to leak the information re names, the fact Field `king hit' the man in question, Field's name etc ? Yet when one of their own tasers a bloke for an alleged packet of biccie's we get a `full investigation underway and it we won't comment until that is finished'. A few soundbites for 2-3 days til something else makes the front pages and so sign of the `full investigation'. Funny that isn't it.

Watch the 4 corners thing on that Lakemba bloke. Some fat dyke whore cop being led by police internal affairs with the `investigating officer' basically telling this fat pig what to say. If I was that Adam fella's old man I'd have got an AK47 and shot 50 of the low lying vermin filth as payback.

Cops are scum who hide behind the blue line and bend and manipulate laws passed by corrupt governments to fool the dopey proletariat that they are needed to protect society from anarchy.

And yet the police tell the world that drugs are the scourge and they get some 2 pippa who thinks he's churchill tell the world they have rid the streets of drugs after a big bust, because it's what the dopes want to believe. He might even try and use words of 2 syllables or more to make himself sound intelligent as opposed to the sub 50 IQ cretin who can't count to 20 that he truly is

There are plenty of decent Policemen/women, that is not the point. The role of the Police force is to protect a government from it's own citizens. We should be very careful about
any powers they demand.

I'm from NSW, when I was about 15 they finally got Rogerson out of the force. By the time
I was about 27 they finished flushing out the likes of Trevor Hakin. The police force in
NSW has been corrupt most of my life.

We now have a different kind of corrupt police force in NSW. The Police are now a revenue
raising outfit for the state government.

Example of ridiculous request for power: Any policeman killed in line of duty results in
a never to be released life sentence. Who in their right mind would give that kind of
power to the NSW police force.

Doesn't that last bit give the power to the judicial system, not the police force? Or are you stating that the 'power' comes from the police force being granted a wish? If so, then you're ignoring the public outrage against anything but the toughest sentences for scum who cold-bloodedly kill police officers. The change in sentence was far more than just the police wanting it.

And as an aside, when exactly did Michael Murdoch play for Balmain? When he was 10? And for the record, one of the detectives responsible for bringing the Cobby killers to justice was once a lower-grader with Balmain.

No. The last bit takes power away from the judicial system, as they have no discretion in
sentencing. The judicial system is completely against it. Public outrage is driven by
the press fuelling the ignorance of the general public to sell papers.

As for for Anita Cobby, it was just a bit of trivia, as the only "murderers" I could think
of re footy played for Balmain. I only read it in a book about Cobby that Michael Murdoch
managed to stay on the rails whilst he was playing footy with Balmain. That dude could
have gone off the rails at 6. Trivia/distraction.

I am not defending the behaviour of these types of people, but I don't want them causing
the civil rights I take for granted, taken away from me.

OK then, what about the guy who puched the 66 year old (over water restrictions) and he
had a heart attack.

Beng drugged up and pissed is actually a defence, on the grounds that it isn't pre meditated.

I know it is - but I don't think it should be. And with the old guy having the heart attack, stiff shit, the puncher shouldn't have punched him.

I've got two lasting memories of the accused. Firstly getting poleaxed by Mark Glanville (?) while playing for Manly and secondly calling a journalist an egg at a lol@50uff$ press conference.

Are you talking about the one in 1994 with Alan Jones?

I think that Jacin Sinclair IIRC.

Terrible news for the bloke getting punched and his family.

He shouldn't have done it, I agree (a complete idiot), but it could so easily have resulted
in nothing but a black eye. Do you think that guy should be treated in the same way as
John Travers (the guy who cut Cobby's throat)? There was never any doubt about the
Cobby outcome.

Actually, Travers and co have been jailed for life retrospectivelly via the "truth in
sentencing rubbish". I don't agree with that either. At the very least, all bar Travers
should be released by now, IMO.

F*ck me the demented brains of some posters never cease to amaze me. A bloke lost his life after being beaten up, and the police have charged two people with his murder. No doubt they also had to inform the victims family that he was fighting for his life, just as they inform every wife, mother, father, son or daughter of their loved ones death. Just like they have to deal with every drug crazed f*ckwit beating up his missus or kids, home invasions, rapes and a thousand other criminal acts.

Yet mentally deficient morons like Crazy Tiger are whinging at them, and condoning sports stars killing anyone who crosses their path.

You shouldnt have joined Civil Liberties until you thought about civil responsibilities. Given that you cant even f*cking type properly, you probably should have probably joined an RSL instead. Cops dont bother you if you aint a crim. Simple.

Great news that they did their job so efficiently. Sad news about the victim, and my condolances to his family.

Spot-on Loudy, I've got no beef with CrazyTiger at all, but when I talk to some people from ACL it irks me when they carry on about what is being 'taken away' and they never talk about what they ought to contribute to a harmonious society.

I am assisting fools like you who don't appreciate the regime under which they live.

A simple thank you is the correct response.

I don't mean this to sound the wrong way, of course my thoughts are with the victim's family. But does anyone know if Craig Field has kids?

I've given it a lot of thought Fire. Loudy's position is ridiculous.

Thank you to the police who do a very tough job in order to keep us safe.

Thank you also to the staff of Gladesville Hospital for keeping us safe from Crazy Tiger.

Yes he does.

I feel very sorry for Craig Field. He has blown all his money on gambling, done some
incredibly stupid things (snorting coke ruining his career), and now killed a bloke with
an errant punch.

He isn't Martin Bryant, that is my point.

Can you PM me with your credit card details. The president of Nigeria is in serious trouble!
Together we can sort it out.

Nah he's OK, Loudy is correct on the 'duties/responsibilities' aspect of liberties. In my opinion it really is a give-and-take type of situation. The problem occurs when we have to figure out how much give-and-take we do to all persons and agendas involved.
