Yeah really good point, it was a doubling down of his self justification and is entirely incongruous with his previous “error of judgment” submission. He still reaffirmed he would support Finch. Should have left that last paragraph out, in the press release. I guess he did not learn.
Yes.It's unfortunate that it had to come this, and very sad how things have transpired.
Yes, Albert is a legend of the club as a player. Whilst somewhat flawed as a coach and in the various other off field roles he has performed, there is no denying that he has been a good servant of the club.
Hopefully this is just the start of some fresh blood and people with 21st Century business nous coming into the boardroom.
The most frustrating thing of all - we are just a middle of the road club in the greater context of the game, and have been so for way too long. Unfortunately this has created a mentality at board/management level whereby they don't really need to improve or take risks in order to get the club moving up the rungs. This same mentality has spread to the football team with conservative recruitment and conservative week-to-week player selections. In summary - people have been sitting on their hands for far too long getting paid big money in doing so. There is no incentive to improve and we make conservative decisions in all areas of the club to ensure we don't stoop too low.
Those usual culprits who are at the top year in and year out - the motivation is to stay on that perch. Clubs who have been down the bottom in recent times, the motivation is to get out of that rut and moves are being made to make that happen (at least from what we see outside looking in).
Sorry, but please re-read. He is not sorry that he wrote a reference. He is appolagetic he wrote it on official dragons letterhead, and this is why he resigned. It reads that Albert doesn't regret the actions he took that lead to being sacked.
For me, that's very odd for a chairman.
Craig to me epitomizes what St George is about, but seriously giving a bloke a character reference on St George letter head is a bit strange considering he was a former detective...Yeah really good point, it was a doubling down of his self justification and is entirely incongruous with his previous “error of judgment” submission.
I think he’s been tapped on the shoulder and is feeling the effects of what he sees as betrayal at the highest levels.
In his long career in officialdom, I’d imagine he would have been on the other side of a fracas and part of the scheming, swinging the axe, an executioner.
Now it’s his turn.
And he’s going down fighting (in his mind).
This whole release from Craig, well in my mind, his enemies will take comfort that it seems to justify every knife they plunged into his back.
A lesson in crisis management “ how not to handle things “ from Craig’s view.
My view is that they were only too pleased to accept his statement because they knew it was rubbish and make a bad impression for him.
Great, all we need now is for Hook to write a reference for an alleged paedo and we will be sorted.I’m surprised that the governance of the place has improved to the point that he has stood down
Or Hook just writes a reference for Young on Dragon's letterhead so Young can attach it to his next job application.Great, all we need now is for Hook to write a reference for an alleged paedo and we will be sorted.
Great post mate. However, you’re giving this club too much credit. Middle of the road club would be an improvement. We are bottom of the barrel. Everything in this club reeks of mediocrity. It's unfortunate that it had to come this, and very sad how things have transpired.

Yes mate. If these are the types of decisions that a bloke at the top would make. Then it shows why the club is in so much trouble. Even blind Freddy could see it’s a horrendous idea to write a reference letter for an accused pedo using St George letterhead. It’s crazy he thought there was no issue.Craig to me epitomizes what St George is about, but seriously giving a bloke a character reference on St George letter head is a bit strange considering he was a former detective...
Fair enough mate. I have no issue in him writing a reference for someone he’s known all his life as well. The St George letterhead was a huge mistake. I also think he shouldn’t have said that Finch is highly remorseful, that he has learnt his lesson, and that he is a highly decent young man. How would he really know if he’s remorseful? Is he just remorseful that he was caught? And How can someone be a decent young man if they are trying to score kiddy porn?I’m not sure I’m in the majority here, but I have no problem with the letter young wrote, except for the dragons letter head. His explanation was spot on, and his resigning was correct. His mistake was using the dragons letter head, he paid a price, it’s 100% clear now it was a personal letter. Move on.
Most of us on here are rusted-on Dragon supporters.Marvellous how the press have got us all navel gazing and concentrating on somewhat irrelevant things.
If Albert hadn’t stood down in reality who in this place was going to stop following the club or hand his / her membership back?
Many worse things than this have happened and the vast majority of us are still here supporting the club and the only thing that really happens is we put another entry in the column called dumbf**kery committed by our BOD.
The hysteria this has created is designed to get our backs up so we voice our negativity against all things StGI and the media love it.
Albert has done the wrong thing but I do not agree with the absurd posts about him supporting a pedophile.
He went out on a limb to support a longtime friend and rightfully he has paid a hefty price for it.
If this issue has been the thing we should most focus on then we really do have no idea as the situation was always going to resolve in the proper manner.
We just wanted to remain negative and create unwarranted hysteria about it and yet again the media have got the exact result they were looking for.
