 Daniel Mortimer for me anyway. I reckon the best is not too far away.
Tough kid..can tackle, and won't squib it...I like the boy, and the more I watch him, the more I see Uncle Louie in him, rather than Uncle Steve...

But louie was a centre and later 2nd rower.

Daniel is supposed to be a half.

I think Robbo can do what Mortz does and delivers more often than not.

The issue I have with Mortimer is that he should watch what Langer used to do.

Langer had the same physical size, I think Mortz is even leaner than Alfie, but Langer could effectively turn that disadvantage to a positive.

Mortz is trying to be a normal halfback, but his physical size and lack of natural skills prevents that.

By natural skills I mean, he is not a big kicker but he doesn't even time it nicely ala Prince, Thurston, Sandow, he tries to boot the crap out of it which means it loses direction.

Passing - He doesn't seem to be a natural passer to me. No long spiral passes, no over the top passes.

I just think that a $55k Robbo can deliver more than a $250K Mortz.

THere is a point to the Kimmorley, Orford choice as well but that's banking on the fact that Mortz will become a great halfback (which I don't see). At best, he will be a Finch. A secondary halfback not calling the shots.

Kimmorley I think could improve our team heaps just with his kicking and control allowing Hayne even more precise pick and choose entry points

However, it will be only a band aid.

Cronk, at least could be a 3-4 year'er.

Just on Ball Players. I have been watching Sutton play and he is very similar to skill to Mateo.

Sutton has now matured and plays tactically and with percentages.

I wished Mateo had grown to this role as a

1. Hayne
6. Mateo (with Maturity)

would have been the alternate attacking point.

Alas it is not to be.

Sutton and Mateo have always been clones. I've thought this since they were both playing first grade.
Mateo has severely disciplined himself of late, and funnily enough, so has Sutton.
Consequently, they have both looked much better footballers.
Maybe better tuition in earlier days might have brought them along in a more disciplined, controlled fashion, but then, I'm not one to want to see the stifling of skill and talent.

That's why I hate seeing Mateo go the way he has and Sutton the way he has.

Sutton is the 6 and controls the play quite well.

I just wished it was Mateo for Parra.

I oould never see Mateo playing that role. If ever there was a guy who should have been taller and played basketball, Mateo is the man - always trying to pop the killer pass from day one. He is a talented guy, but would never be a controlling playmaker - too inconsistent.

Sadly, most NRL sides need only 2 playmakers - we have Hayne and Robson/Mortimer/Keating. Any more just cloggs up the attack.

I hope Mateo carves it up at the Warriors, however, I dont think even giving him 90% of the ball would make him a success at Parramatta.

I would LOVE to sign Cronk - he would make Hayne even better (look how many tries Cronk sets up for Slater - Hayne is a better player than Slater)

Hayne and Cronk = Dynasty.

For me it is not about whether Cronk is good, best or crap.

My concern is whether Cronk will prove to be value for money.

Let's say we get Cronk for $400K. Let's assume he performs better than Robson, as you would expect from an Origin player. But at what point the difference justify the price tag??

I am not saying that Cronk won't be value for money. However it is also useful to consider signing Kimmorley or Orford for less money, provide Mort some mentoring and save the cap space for upgrades/signings in 2011/12.

If we don't get Cronk very shortly it's best we buy two more powerful, mobile skillful forwards who can off-load and play prop to both support 2nd phase plays, create fast play-the-balls, provide Robson, Mortimer and Hayne with the time and space to operate (as we saw in the 1st half against the dogs on Friday night) and to cover for injuries. One of them should be Willie Mason. The other ideally should be Sika Manu (if we can get him).

8. Fui Fui Moi Moi - Prop
10. Tim Mannah - Prop
15. Justin Poore - Prop

16. Willie Mason Second Row/Back up prop
Shane Shackleton Second Row/Back up prop
Sika Manu - Second Row/Back up prop
11. Nathan Hindmarsh - Second Row/Back up prop

12. Ben Smith - Lock/Second Row/Back up center
13. Justin Horo - Lock/Second Row/Back up center

9. Mathew Keating
14. Tom Humble - Utility/Back up 7/6/4/3/2

7. Jeff Robson - Halfback/Back up Hooker/5/8
6. Daniel Mortimer - 5/8/Back Up Halfback
5. Luke Burt - Winger
4. Timana Tahu - Center
3. Joel Reddy - Center/Back Up Winger
2. Winger (Someone else we buy? or Wright or someone brought up from Toyota Cup)
1. Jarryd Hayne - Fullback

If we had this pack of forwards we could move Horro to center & Reddy to Wing so that all the above play in the 17. Ben Smith and Horro could rotate lock to give each other a break when/if necessary.

The power of this group of forwards to support this bunch of backs will be good enough to win the 2011 and 2012 premierships (maybe Hindmarsh, Burt and Tahu have retired for 2012???)

With Inglis joining Brisbane, I can't believe you blokes actually took 86 posts to realise there is no chance that Cronk will leave the storm, let alone join the eels lol.

Hasn't joined Brisbane yet, they don't want to cover his full wage, Melb won't let him go unless someone covers his full pay.

I doubt Melbourne will have a choice
i agree melbourne are the ones who have to get under the cap by 2011 if they try to play hardball too much other clubs will go elsewhere and they will be stuck with too many players and will have to let them go for peanuts at the last minute

they could just let Cronk go that would help them, they have a few good young halves coming thru that can cover.
