pj s post is a rare burst of sanity on a very important issue.
lets have a brief look at the history..the football club was responsible for running football matters until the late 80,s or early 90,s when it was merged with the leagues club.
prior to the merging the leagues club issued a grant to fund the footy oprerations.
now that we have a merged club the president has a dual responsibility of overseeing the liscenced club as well as the football operations.
to support him he has a general manager of the leagues club and a ceo of the football club, along with an elected board of directors who meet and decide club policy.
policy decisions are carried out by the full time employees.
any club member i believe is eligible to stand as a candidate for the board( maybe you need to be a member for 3 years) .
what has happened over the last 10 to 15 years is that groups of candidates form a ticket and campaign as a group or bloc and obtain power.
this is exactly how peter gow came to power initially when he deposed mike lyon after mike had exposed the peter reilly saga.
gow came in and helped the club out of receivership and eventually fell on his sword or scissors should we say.
one thing that i feel is very important to note when voting for a particular candidate in club elections is to assess not whether he is a good bloke but to does he or she have the business acumen and drive to guide our club to success both on and off field.
when the club elections take place i would never vote for a ticket or bloc as this gives power in a carte blanche fashion , this has been one of the clubs biggest problems in my opinion, rather i would assess each candidate and his relative merits.
my opinion for what it matters is that the current management is no where near as professional as our opposition and the manner in which a number of issues have been handled and communicated to the members leaves a lot to be desired.
the next 3 years will be crucial to the future and future success of the sharks, i hope we see some agressive competition for board seats not an old mates act between certain parties to hold power.
very interesting times ahead i feel.

Obviously my vote shouldn't be based on whether he is a good bloke or not. That is why I don't know who to vote for. Who are you voting for and why? Barry is a good bloke though and if that's all I have to go on then guess where my vote is going. Tell me why it shouldn't and where it should go. I am a swinging voter, make my mind up for me.

Barry is a politician through and through and has been shown to knowingly mislead the board.

Not something I want in a leader of the club.

It remains to be seen as to which, if any independent candidates dare to put their name forward. The current mafia that controls our club have a record of fear and hate campaigns against anyone who dares challenge their positions.

very un democratic indeed.

PJs point about marketting is right on the money, our entire marketing dept needs to be sacked and we need to contract it out to an agency.

I'd like to see a former player as President.

Weren't Dane Sorensen and Jon Docking put on the board a few years ago? Are they still around?

docking is still on the board but has stated he will not be standing again this time because he is sick of simply being forced to go along with Barrys choices.

Sorensen was forced out by barry because he was a threat to barrys littel group because Dane is mates with p gow..

like a school playground with big brave barry the bully in charge.

Mate if you must know, any dislike or dissatisfaction i have for the current board of our club is due plainly and directly to the fact that they have mismanaged our club from a very strong position , to it's current position.

when talking about the sharkies , any person or people who hurt our great club to that extreme , in my book, are not worthy and warrant being disliked.

honestlt it is long term ,continual bungling. I don't think they are up to the job and the club is suffering.

marketing has been a disaster since Fisk left basically.

the developement should have been finshed by now, but the current mob changed it all after gow was axed thinking they could do it themselves and not involve lend lease, they were wrong.

the high court noted that our president has shown a habitual propensity to lie and decieve the board.

and the entire contract they signed with anderson was negligent, not t9o mention the way they over saw it's unravelling last year.

any one of the things individually is enough for mine to sack them, combined they are a pretty damning case.

i cant see why anyone would stick up for barry pierce
continual bungling has set the club back 5 years at least

I am not defending Barry Pierce. He is a nice bloke, I don't know why anyone would deny that. As President he doesn't have the results on the board. I was just curious as to why Beeker had so much to say about it. Is that OK with you SS? Next time I'll ask permission to ask someone else a question.

Barry a nice bloke.

Mate, i think he can be two faced. A nice happy backslapper when in the fans eyes, but behind closed doors he really doesn"t care about the fans , or anything other than his safely locked up position running the club. You can see this between the lines, he loves sucking it up to the big sponsors because he feels their cash makes him look good as the boss.

What barry doesn"t realise is that happy fans paying their way thru the gate is what sponsors love to see and what a great footy club is based around and thrives on.

Do you think match day sponsors Toyota were happy that 9000 people were there to see their cars driven around the ground and some pissy fireworks before kick off ?

Barry might come accross as being nice, but he has also been caught red handed partaking in some very dubious dealings in his role at the helm, this is detailled in the court records.
