meh
we're a team that has shown it can overcome adversity
to come to win against the storm last year
to avoid the spoon when we used 37 players in the season, (and deny the tigers a spot in the finals)
and while i think cross is ok
he makes a few metres, but never threatens, never really bends the line, definitely not enough to justify his paycheck
i dun like his offloads either
BUT
we dont have any props....
so is simpson definitely back this week?

Ben Ross - won a premiership with Penrith, Cronulla paid overs and he's hardly played a game.
Ben Cross - won a premiership with Melbourne, Newcastle paid overs and he's hardly played a game.

Must be something in the name

It's funny how everyone's carrying on as if we're paying him what Cronulla are paying Ross.

It's not even in the same ballpark.

All I have to say is bugger! I'm finally heading up for a home game and it looks like we'll be running a depleted side. In saying that, it could be the week for some of the boys to stand up...

Well WTF has happened? Gotta keep the faith here. Crossy might need to look at UK options in 2010 as the club has got to be running out of patience with his injuries.

Not like you to be lacking in optimism.....

Seriously, this is early Origin for us.

Cross out, Mullen in doubt (thats right, doubt, he has scans to day, lets not jump the gun just yet)

Doogs in for Wes and Sau will play with a needle in necessary.

Aku will be back, to drop Lulia out of the side.

Scott in for Dodge (who might play if Mullen is out).

Simmo in for Cross.

Why all the doom and gloom???

1 Gidley
2 Jim
3 Doogs
4 Sau/Lulia
5 Aku
6 Mullen/Dodge/Hilder
7 Scott
8 Simmo
9 Degois
10 Taufua
11 House
12 Taia
13 Hilder/Taia

14 Patto/Karawana
15 Wicks
16 Faas
17 Natusch/Nadira

I see no problem with that side.
I am with Pika here. It is called depth Karma and we are lucky to have it. When Coops returns we will be rocking along.

Cross was in an article the other week talking about how he wanted to re-sign for another couple years, how he enjoyed the club and ti's inevitable rise.

We have gotten terrible value out of him, but that's through no fault of his own. I still think he is an excellent signing, and one of the top 5 profile signings across the entire club's history (De Gois being another). I don't blame anyone for the way this has worked out. Hopefully he's back next year for a decent run. Even if we make it to the finals and he plays, he'll be useless due to match fitness.

Don't rate him, runs too upright, gets driven back in every tackle. On par with Reyno and Rusty Richardson for terrible purchases.

Edit: Haven't rated him since I saw his first trial, when he got picked up, driven back or smashed every time he run the ball by Z grade Kurri players (or whoever the hell it was we were playing when Aku scored like 5 tries).

Cross is a big loss and was in line for a NSW spot. He is a slow starter to the season but has shown when he is match fit, that he is one of the better props going round.

We have depth to cover, however don't need anymore loss of front rowers.

Anyone know how Danny Vaughan is going in the local comp just in case

Named in the Newcastle rep side, and Macquarie had a big win on the weekend, so he must be going OK.
I'd be intersted in seeing how much progress he made training with Melbourne for years, and the big guy has the natural size and strength to aim up for firstgrade without having to spend 3 months in the gym, so if he is finally fit he could just slip onto our bench and get match fit over a bit of time.

Thanks Roops. The guy had a bit of talent when he was here previously

Have you watched him play this year Roop? He is a country mile off anything near NRL.

Vaughn looks very good at park football level, though he is playing in a quality squad.

Not a patch on Tovo, Edwards and Natusch though.

Worth remembering that they have had a full NRL pre season behind them though.

As for Hlad.... lucky to be making grade.
