In terms of support for clubs in QLD, I would rank teams as such:

- Brisbane
- North QLD (everyone's 2nd team now that they aren't consistently sh!t)
- Gold Coast

--- Gap---

- St. George-Illawarra (Due to the Dragons 11 year run was a very popular club when people had favourite clubs in both the Brisbane and NSWRL comps)
- Melbourne (Very successful 10 year history, large contingent of QLD players - sometimes affectionately referred to as the 4th QLD club, rivalry with Brisbane have endeared them to those that dislike the Broncos.

--- Gap ---

- Bulldogs (Well supported, have purchased numerous QLD'ers)
- NZ (As in Sydney they bring out the ex-pat element)

--- Gap ---

- Sydney City (Always shared a healthy rivalry)
- Newcastle (Always respected, if not overly popular in the Joey era, will be interesting to see how their support fairs now that he is retired)

--- Gap ---

- Canberra (Not the clash it once was in the 90's, where once they were the non-Sydney club filled with QLD'ers, support has fallen with the introduction of new QLD clubs)
- Manly (Another club whose support seems to have fallen after the club plunged into years of ruin)
- Parramatta (Once was quite the draw, but the introduction of the Storm/Titans/Cowboys have seen them fall down the pecking order)
- Cronulla (Was quite popular in the 90's when they played with flair, not so much these days)

--- Gap ---

- Souths (Cellar dweller, Brisbane had the wood over them for 18 years, Never been a big draw in Brisbane)
- Wests (Cellar dweller, Never been a big draw in Brisbane, no QLD component to their players)
- Penrith (Cellar dweller, Never been a big draw in Brisbane)

While I can see some clubs such as the Dragons always having a strong QLD support base, it will be interesting to see how some of the other traditional Sydney clubs fair. Older people brought up on both NSWRL and Brisbane comps often stuck with their NSW club when the NSWRL evolved into the NRL, young people however would be more inclined to pick one of the QLD 3, with the prevalent attitude of QLD clubs before all others. I believe it can already be seen to an extent with lessened support for Parramatta, Cronulla and Manly over the past decade.

Would Parra really be that low on support in Brisbane?
I didn't think they were near the level of support that Saints have, but didn't think it would be quite that low either.

So kids under 12 free. Fair enough.

Apart from the usual preaching to the converted, promotion for the big game on Sunday has been poor.

Kids under 12 free with a paying adult though. If you're 1 adult with 5 kids, only one can get in free unless you bring four mates.

Any updates on expected crowd figures? Also, if the NRL are fair dinkum let every kid U/12 free into every game for the rest of the year then watch crowd figures and the rest that comes with it rise. It still fathoms me they can't compute such a concept would only be beneficial for rugby league long term.

That move only works at stadiums like ANZ and SFS where the club makes money back regardless of the crowd figure. Most clubs IIRC run at a loss on game days because stadium costs outweigh the return...

Well so be it, but I would think that long term especially at the SFS and ANZ stadium like you have said where they make money regardless the long term gains would be so beneficial to the game.

  • More adults would come to the game if they knew their kids were getting in for free
  • More kids would be enticed into playing rugby league
  • Money would be spent by adults on food/drinks
  • Crowd figures would rise
  • Greater atmosphere
  • It would just get the ball rolling on a lot of issues that rugby league is struggling with IMO

as has all other matches played in Sydney and Melbourne

Weather for Sunday... not looking too good.. like i said before: the NRL is cursed.. every time there is a big chance of a good crowd turning up.. the heavens open

Sunday A few showers.

City: Min: 13 Max: 20
West: Min: 9 Max: 20

looked about right to me, though that is an opinion based from TV views. Very, very disappointing to be honest, has the potential to be a great game, and it damn well was, and only 25k turned up?????

A lot of the bandwagoners support Melbourne up here, they probably couldn't name more than 5 players from the team though.

TV views meant sh*t, the broadcast side was packed and you don't get to see that. It looked close to 30,000.

I thought it was well over 30k when I walked in.

The souths game had 23k and looked nowhere near that full. Both sides looked pretty damn full and so did each end behind the posts
