Why would you expect a crowd of >55K in a qualifying final?

Because we had the Tigers and the Dragons playing. They finished the season as 2nd and 3rd biggest (Sydney teams) crowd pullers. It is quite possible that the loser of last nights game could be finished for the season. Because the game involved two Sydney teams their was a lot of media hype in the lead up to the game.

Pretty sad to see Melbourne drop. Although 2000 was a year after a premiership and this year is following a spoon.. Still bad though.

It was very partisan which was awesome.

Strangley i had mine on and the other i saw was chooks too. From the Northern end it was clear the Tigers had the crowd. 60/40 i would say.

No real precedent for 50k+ in a sydney week 1 final though. It had a chance if it had it been a decent day but i am happy with the crowd that rocked up.
I lose all sense of bearing in ANZ Stadium but I was in the corner that Ryan, Heignington and Nightingales tries were all scored (aisle 136) and tit seemed that half the opposite side and around to the Dragons Army was St George (almost total) the rest was mainly Tigers with ST George sprinkled through it. 60-40 seems about right.

PR rare that is disagree with you. But I thought the crowd was ordinary. Yes I know it was the best of weahter days here in Sydney, but regardless I was expecting a crowd of 55,000 to 60,000.

When you consider each club has around 15-16K regular paying fans it means the game attracted around 10-15k casual/neutral fans. Not a bad effort and something to build further on in years to come.

I appreciate your optimism mate, but i think you'd be the only one who was actually expecting 55-60k for this clash on these forums

imo 40k was the pass mark for this game; 45k would be regarded as okay/solid; 50k fantastic.. 60k was never gonna happen for a 1st round semi........

Even though no rain is forecast, the fact it has become overcast this afternoon should be enough to scare away about 5000 sooky Manly fans.

Those are some pretty damn significant events that affected the crowds. Hopefully soon the storms average crowd starts going up. I'm expecting a decent increase next year.

Edit: Also poor scheduling really hurt the storm this year. Home games need to be spread out more or you risk turning away the casual fans.

Looking pretty good for tonight at Suncorp. Probably close to last week.
Can't get 2 seats together outside of restricted view areas.

This better not result in HQ changing back to suburban qualifying finals just because the feeble manly fans cant find their way across the harbour.
