It's just been a month. There's been lots of games with heavy rain etc. Let's give it a few more weeks before we start thinking crowds are declining.

There's a difference of 540 in total aggregate. By comparison AFL is down about 67k on aggregate.

Remember though round 4 last year was Easter. To remain on par with last year, we need at least 130,663 this weekend or about 16,333 per game.

If Broncos get 25k, Dragons 30k, NQ 15k, Wests 20k, NZ 15k, we'd probably get ahead.

2011 season has been a bit of a let down for crowds apart from the odd one hear.Watching all 6 games on Premier Sports and apart from the Souths v Manly game al the other shown games had heaps of empty seats which to an newcomer or passing observer to the sport would think that the game is not very popular.

Should we be happy with the NRL being a highly rated TV product alongside blockbuster games getting the big crowds or would you like to see people filling those empty seats.
I can not work out the problem as Rugby League deserves great crowds week in week out.

You constantly post this sort of thing all year long. It is going to take time for our crowds to improve they are not going to just suddenly double overnight.

We will break the record for crowds again this year and we will continue to grow our membership/crowd numbers next year.

We have some big games coming up as well. Dogs/dragons, broncos/knights (will only be around 25K but still pretty high), parra/dogs, souths/dragons, bulldogs/souths, roosters/dragons all coming in the next 3 weeks.

Those seem pretty reasonable but hopefully 30K should be a bare minium for the dragons game. I'd say if there is no rain than 40K seems quite likely.

Hardly cause for concern. Lets wait until at least Round 10 before we start drawing comparisons.

Teddyboy has been coming here every week for years saying how bad the crowds are, yet we have been breaking records left right and center. Some people just have to be patient, crowds aren't going to jump overnight.

Remember, this is only really the second year memberships have been pushed, the real results will come 10 years down the track.

As people have said, Rnd 4 last year was Easter which always draws some decent crowds so it gives last years numbers a bit of a boost, we are on a good pace with some blockbusters coming up, im still confident we can break the best ever average for a season.

We are more than holding are own at home this year. Easily outnumbered the rabbits and massively outnumbered the tigers. Hardly something to complain about though, this is the sole reason the afl get the averages they do as away fans usually turn up in as big a numbers as the home fans in melbourne

It's a poor crowd buts its not like anyone pulls massive crowds against an out of town team on a monday night.

Hopefully things pick up during the year.

Agree with all of what you have said CC.

The thing with AFL in Melbourne is they all use the MCG or Etihad so there is no "real" home ground. Thus away fans feel more compelled to turn up than perhaps they do in Sydney NRL.

Hence why we need a rectangular stadium that can service around 50k+ for Eels, Rabbitohs, Bulldogs, Tigers & Dragons for big games in all weather conditions. Oasis was kind of in the correct ball park but it all got scuttled.

Having gone to Stadium Australia last year I was reminded again at Newcastle on Sunday of just how important sightlines are to the viewing experience. Standing on the upper tier at Newcastle, despite the distance the angle is designed to keep the correct perimeter around the field and you still feel quite close to the action.

Saints v Chooks at the SFS got 37994 last year. The Dogs have a bigger supporter base than the Chooks. So i would say around 42k if it is a fine day.

Hope a lot of SCG members turn up to knock the figures up further.

Probably one of the lower drawing teams. Being on a Monday it will be sub 25k - easily.

Ah of course, we all know that Roosters crowds are only good because of the away support :crazy:

One wonders why this “massive away support” from the clubs you mentioned doesn’t happen at any other grounds. We just must be that entertaining to watch.

Some info I forgot re: the Newcastle crowd on Sunday was that they had the annual Hill to Harbour race, with 2000 competitors taking part...may have had some effect too. In my opinion this could be one of the factors that might have stopped the crowd hitting the current capacity of 30k and instead getting 25-27k, not the dodgy 20,900 'official' figure.
