Not trying to be a smart arse, but what's the big deal with crowds? I go to my home games, but not away games in Sydney. Would rather watch those at my leagues club. Interstate games I watch on FOX of course. Just don't see the big deal about crowds. Could someone explain it to me please?

Perception. How our game is perceived outside in could well be influenced largely by crowds. New potential fans could switch off at the sight of a game being played in front of an empty 80k capacity stadium. You could be forgiven for thinking that no one gave a rats arse about the game being played

Looks like it should be over 40k judging by ticket availability (Gold exhausted and Maroon single seats). Can't buy seats in the lower bowl. Which is pretty good 4 days out.

Pretty good chance a fair chunk was sold before our slump due to 4 game memberships.

its an important game for the Broncos ... they aren't assured of a finals birth & another loss will have them teetering with the Raiders .. Knights .. Titans all gunning for their spot.

Crowds are the only visual indicator of health for a club

We don't see, income, sponsorship money, any financials at all

NFL are thinking about fining clubs with empty seats, as it is a bad look

Bulldogs v Tigers 32k
Broncos v Storm 35k
Raiders v Roosters 12k
Sharks v Rabbitohs 15k
Titans v Eels 15k
Warriors v Panthers 10k
Eagles v Knights 16k
Dragons v Cowboys 11k

Sharks & Souths ... 15K :sarcasm:

it will near sellout .... with GI back & the Sharks trying to hang on to a finals birth & with fine weather as well ( predicted) .... there'll be 20,000 there minimum & it might nudge a sellout too

It would make a lot more sense to give financial incentives to clubs that achieve crowd benchmarks. It is always better to have positive rewards, rather than negative penalties, in my opinion.

correct
the AFL have a lot of people hood winked
you see a 50K crowd in Melbourne .... but its one of the cheapest sports there is to attend in this country.. certainly in that city ... staggeringly so
as little as $2
& while it looks good ... do the math
its smoke n mirrors

meanwhile some NRL clubs are charging people $25 to stand on a hill

with our new found wealth
the commission needs to take over the running of all venues & deal with stadia owners & councils directly to get the best deals for its clubs
then a schedule that delivers the biggest crowds
then a ticket pricing model to match this

Rubbish, another AFL myth. Just had a look and the cheapest general admission memberships in Melbourne are around $180-200. Why would you buy one if you can get into a game for $2? In Perth you are looking at $30-75 gate ticket price to see West Coast or Dockers. This is the price list for Carlton at the gate tickets.

Premium Seating Adult$45.15 Concession $34.15 Children 6-14 Years $10.55 Children 5 and Under $8.05 Family of 4 (2Ad + 2Ch)$103.10 Family of 3 (2Ad + 1Ch) $103.10
Reserved Seating$35.65 Concession $27.65 Children 6-14 Years $6.05 Children 5 and Under $3.55 Family of 4 (2Ad + 2Ch) $75.10 Family of 3 (2Ad + 1Ch) $75.10

I would like to see cheaper options for behind the sticks seats and family tickets particularly at NRL games. Also would be good to see free admission to any child U16 who is a registered with a RL club as a player.

Hope they get 10k, but the Warriors were absoluteley wretched on the weekend. Both teams basically done for 2012, this one's the danger game crowd-wise.

I did say Melbourne ... not Perth
& you've probably chosen the most expensive club in Melbourne
& seats there are as cheap as $3.50

myth busted .... ;-)

haha, must be why there is 50K under 5's at AFL games screaming "ball"! ;)

but seriously, cost isn't the biggest factor in crowds imo. It can make a difference to the casual fan but on the whole if a ticket is $20 or $25 makes little difference in decison making matrix imo.

Facilities, ease of access, experience. These are what matter.

Went to ANZ for the dogs v sth's game were everyone was predicting 30k+ ended up 19k. Seems Friday night big crowd predictions rarely pay out.
If you turned up on Friday night May 31 in Round 13 to see the Dogs v Souths game, the crowd would have been ZERO you bumbling f**kwit.

The game was played Saturday night June 1, an instant downer on crowd numbers.

And the weather was pretty crap that day and the days leading into the game.

Im hoping for at least 30k on Fri night.

It's also funny Perth Red conveniently ignored the record 35k on Good Friday between the two clubs
