Newcastles ground is good enough that they shouldn't need to move anywhere else before the GF, that's not good for them.

What about that rubbish from John Singleton in the paper today, suggesting the Knights play half their games out of Gosford.

Why would they want to play games at a 20,000 stadium when they've already got a 33,000 capacity stadium and their average has the potential to be around the 25k mark?

Let's put things in perspective here...

Newcastle is 2 hours from Sydney... Canberra is 3 hours...

Townsville is 16 hours from Brisbane...

Doesn't Singo own Bluetongue Stadium, or have some sort of affiliation with it?

99,685 so far this round and 2,957,798 this season
To beat last year with 9 matches to go - 166,617 (ave 18,513)
To beat the record aggregate in 2010 - 192,219 (21,357)
To beat the record average in 2005 - 204,058 ( 22,673)

They are all still possible but by no means certain.

The Knights don't need to take games there but teams like the Roosters, Sharks and Souths should consider playing Newcastle at Gosford every year. Even coordinate through the NRL with the Knights and sell 3 game memberships.

The other two games could be Manly vs an interstate team and perhaps Souths vs Manly as the big event game.

I agree.

I'd like to see around 6-8 Gosford games a year, but just not the Knights.

We need big crowds from Newcastle, Brisbane, parra and the dogs. Hopefully some of the other ones can pull ok crowds but there are a few questionable games in there.

Titans did get 44k to their prelim at Suncorp. So that was probably a worthwhile move.

It's the moves that likely don't improve the crowd that are stupid.

Titans & Knights losing puts a damper on the works. The final 8 wouldn't have been decided until the Sunday.

Not only would either side need to win but they'd need Broncos & Tigers to both lose and by considerable amounts...

Oh well, it's Old Boys Day on Friday so we'll still get a turn out. We'll get more than what teams still in the finals got this round...

Well for next week surely we can expect 25K in Newcastle, 40K in brisbane and 20K for the Dogs game. Around 15K at Cronulla and Leichhardt.

Whether we beat the record or not depends entirely on the turnout on Sunday night. ANZ are preparing for a 40K crowd but realistically I think they'll be lucky to get 30K.

Interesting that AAMI Park is not on the Week 3 list for preliminary finals, when it was used for a prelim last year. In fact AAMI Park is apparently not suitable for a Week 2 final!

If I recall correctly the same info was up last year and they still chose AAMI for the prelim. Which didn't sell out. So I don't see Etihad being used, and certainly not the cavernous MCG (worst league venue in Australia perhaps?).

Canberra and Newcastle should be able to use their home ground in week 3. If its by 'home state', then Canberra doesn't even qualify for Sydney as its in a totally different territory/state. Imagine if Canberra come 1st and they have to play a prelim against the Bulldogs or Bunnies at ANZ...

Cowboys would obviously play at DFS, Warriors should play at Eden Park, Melbourne at Etihad. Brisbane and titans at Suncorp and all the Sydney clubs to play at ANZ or SFS.
