That's 20,000 members not season ticket holders.

I was disappointed with the crowd. I thought we would get to about 25,000. If you can't get a big crowd to our first home game, especially when you are plaiting the Rorters then when can you.

Didn't I say it was members and not ticket holders?

I'm convinced Souffs sell that rabbit sticker and count it as a membership then give the other 10,000 away. Souffs will be the only team, again, to average less per game than their "membership" base.

Souths would move back there in a heartbeat

IF

they got the same deal as they do at Homebush
.... ANZ pay Souths a million a year to play there .. the gate is then turned over to ANZ......
they wouldn't make much in gate takings as most attendees are paid up souths members
but they get the catering & pourage ... & they keep their staff working .

I remember reading somewhere Crowe saying the SCG trust should be wearing balaklavas & have sawn off shot guns
they're thiefs

they'd be charged a million to play at the SFS
its a commercial decision
if the SFS want Souths back... they'll need a deal similar to ANZ's

you have to be kidding me right?

The Roosters play at SFS and get charged $40k/game and get to keep the Gate.

That is f**k all. QLD teams get charged $300k/game and Crowe is bitching.

If Souths played at the SFS they might be relevant again and make more revenue as a result in other areas, that is more important that $1mill/year when you have private ownership.

It is just plain dumb to have those two teams last night playing at Homebush.
Surely Souths have a right to take a game or several away from there?
25000 last night if played at the SFS. Guaranteed.

Souths will be forever middle of the road in attendances, despite their memberships, if they stay at ANZ.

Everyone knows they have more fans than Easts, they have double the members, yet their crowds are around the same 14-16k range.

Would be very surprised if Manly Tigers this week pulls more than 15K.

Wet weather predicted which will surely see fans take the easy option.

Broncos Cowboys should be a super crowd as per usual!!

what would you prefer to do

pay 1 million a year
or be paid 1 million a year

Souths keep their membership revenue too ...

while ever ANZ offer a deal like that ... the Bunnies will stay put
the SCG trust needs to match it
they get their return on catering & pourage contracts & they keep their staff working on 12 extra occasions

QLD teams... well don't have any other choice do they ?

they haven't played in 5 Grand Finals in the last 11 years like the Roosters have though
that may also have a bearing

I'm not defending them
18K is appalling ....

$40k * 12 = $480k/year not $1mill

That doesn't count the gate takings, where crowds would be much bigger than ANZ. Worst case the club will just break even, but this team is under private ownership and if memberships are so strong and the club is turning a profit ANZ might not be such a dependant avenue.

More members might actually join up/upgrade to season tickets so they can watch the game at a decent venue, further adding to the coffers.

Souths will then have a higher crowd average, 20k+, giving a public perception of one of the powerhouse clubs of the NRL (which they should be). This will come in handy at the negotiating table when dealing with sponsorships.

Big name players might look and see at the atmosphere at a 1/2 to 3/4 full SFS every second week (much like the Broncos and now the Knights) and suddenly Souths might become more of an option in terms of where off-contract players may go.

Typical RL mentality to look at the smaller picture for the short term...

I reckon the performance of the Cowboys will knock 5 to 10K of what they would have got if it was back at its normal Round 1 slot.

What you need to remember is not all of our members live in Sydney. Unlike most other teams a number of them live interstate and overseas. Not sure you would expect them to attend our games.

Plus I think you will find Souths have more season Ticket holders then some clubs have members.

By your estimates it would cost Sth's $120k a game to play at SFS over ANZ ($40k rental+ $80k lost revenue from ANZ). It would require them in the region of 4-5,000 walk up fans a game to cover that cost. (Not sure what the food and beverage deal is at SFS though). I guess Rusty and co have done the sums and don't feel they can get 5,000 pay at the gate customers each game? Shame as SFS is a 10x better stadium for club RL.

ps with the shift to memberships I cannot see these sort of stadium deals lasting too much longer, it isn't viable for them to be getting little gate takings as most attendees are ticketed members.
