You dont think they'd pull at least a few thousand more every week, 10-15k more for the big games, at the SFS?

What's their biggest ever crowd at ANZ?
Thats not the stupid part.
Claiming that the rabbits would get better sponsors or more money from sponsors if they played at SFS is.
Saying they should have to pay to play at SFS and try and say they will earn more money because of it is.
Until the SCG trust changes its ways. No club is going to going to go do a 1.5 million shift, to claim they should and then claim its "small picture" is.

Souths have found themselves in a position where they dont need the huge crowd numbers to ensure their survival, but you want them to go back to that just so keyboard warriors have less one thing to whinge about?
Yeah good luck with that.

Stupid post is stupid.

$40k * 12 = $480k/year not $1mill

That doesn't count the gate takings, where crowds would be much bigger than ANZ. Worst case the club will just break even, but this team is under private ownership and if memberships are so strong and the club is turning a profit ANZ might not be such a dependant avenue.

More members might actually join up/upgrade to season tickets so they can watch the game at a decent venue, further adding to the coffers.

Souths will then have a higher crowd average, 20k+, giving a public perception of one of the powerhouse clubs of the NRL (which they should be). This will come in handy at the negotiating table when dealing with sponsorships.

Big name players might look and see at the atmosphere at a 1/2 to 3/4 full SFS every second week (much like the Broncos and now the Knights) and suddenly Souths might become more of an option in terms of where off-contract players may go.

Typical RL mentality to look at the smaller picture for the short term...

ANZ stadium
18K attendance ... 15K are members
ANZ pay Souths 125K dollars
no other costs to Souths

SFS
22K attendance ... 15K are members
7K pay $25 a ticket .. Souths take 175K at the gate
SFS charge Souths 125K to play at the ground

net profit to Souths .. 50K

a loss of 75K on the ANZ deal .. X 12 games
for an annual loss of 900,000 dollars

again
the ANZ deal is too good to pass up

if the SFS want their business
match it.;-)

In reply to your first comment: When the Broncos get a crowd of over 25k, it pays for the $300k hire fee, they then earn $100k for every 5k on top of the 25k. Do the math, this week they will earn $300,000-$350,000.

If it costs Souths $40k to hire the venue then they don't need to sell many tickets to make a tidy profit.

Second comment: Right so Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, West Coast don't get more lucrative sponsorships because they have the highest memberships and average crowds (a measure of level of support).

The Magpies would sit down with Emirates before negotiations and say look we average 50k/game. That is 50k guaranteed 11 times per year to get ads throughout the match at the stadium on top of that look 75k membership packs with your logo all over it. It's the kind of support that companies want to align themselves with - passionate fans who fork out cash for their team.

The Sharks can't get a major sponsor one of the key reasons would be the perceived lack of supporter base and lack of coverage BUT if the Sharks sold out Shark Park each week they would have a major sponsor and a lot more coverage (watch what 9 do with the Knights this year)...

Are you saying the perception of support through crowd average would not be another string to Souths bow (or any team for that matter) when sounding out potential sponsors?

Im sorry, but do you actually believe that for one second? That they will earn 350k a game per season?
Im not even going to BOTHER continuing after that.

I never said per game. This weekend they will get 40-45,000 through the gate.

The Broncos income (gate receipts, sponsors and merch only) accounted for $28,979,244 in 2010.

If they average 33k, that means they make $160k/game. This only equals $1.92mill of the Broncos $29mill cash income each year.

Good to see you avoid the rest of the post...

Where are u getting a $125k charge to Souths from the SF'S?
From what I have read the Roosters are charged $40k, why should Souths be any different?

Would be very surprised if Manly Tigers this week pulls more than 15K.

Wet weather predicted which will surely see fans take the easy option.

Broncos Cowboys should be a super crowd as per usual!!

The rain hates Rugby League.

What you need to remember is not all of our members live in Sydney. Unlike most other teams a number of them live interstate and overseas. Not sure you would expect them to attend our games.

Plus I think you will find Souths have more season Ticket holders then some clubs have members

Lol this is one of my favourites “we have fans everywhere so they can’t get to games”. What a load of crap, every single team has fans outside their heartland. Souths claim to have 22k members and it has been proven once again to be a myth. They average 16k or whatever it is of which at least 20% on average would be away fans and a further 20% probably wouldn’t be paying members.

You are dreaming if you think 15k of that crowd were South’s members.

Seeing 30K people in Newcastle and 40K in NZ really show cases one of our big strengths over the AFL. They will never have a presence in either area.

doesnt matter if 5k were souths members :sarcasm:
souths don't get a cent of gate rev

anz stadium gets the lot
Souths get their 125k .... if its 5 or 45k in the ground.

souths were asked to pay 125k at the time they eventually moved to ANZ
after telling the SCG trust to go F themselves

price may have come down since then

but it aint them getting paid 125K a game is it
it isn't even zero

so they lose 450k a year instead of 900k

still aint pretty :?
