Auckland...1.3 million, Melbourne...AFL, Brisbane...2 million=1 team, Perth...1.7 million-----Sydney...4.6 million. If we can't get better crowds in a city of 4.6 million then something has to be done.

Imagine the crowds in the AFL if Collington merged with Gleelong!!!

The Roosters are making a concerted effort to grow thier numbers too. And they are. Souths recently broke their regular season attendance record and the Roosters were involved in a 40K match just last week.

There are plenty of positives as far as the souths fan base goes. But the roosters are difficult to defend. Weren't more than 10k easts fans there

Round 9 :: May 4-7
Friday 4 May
Cowboys 30 def Dragons 6 @ Dairy Farmers (Crowd: 15,006), 7:35pm Ch 9/GEM - thread
Saturday 5 May
Titans 14 lost to Tigers 15 (golden point) @ Skilled (Crowd: 14,254), 7:30pm FOX Sports LIVE - thread
Sunday 6 May
Roosters 24 def Knights 6 @ Allianz (Crowd: 12,728), 3:00pm Ch 9/GEM - thread

So people are banging on about our crowds and yet there's a couple of one-town teams that posted less than 2/3 thousand more than we did. We also played an out of town team with key players missing and indifferent form - much like ourselves.

The roosters crowds have been fine. Newcastle, Penrith and the Warriors each draw approx 12,700 whereas in the past they would have drawn around the 10,000 mark.

We are still yet to have a home game against any of our 4 traditional rivals (dogs, souths, wests, dragons) and of our 5 home games thus far only 1 has been against another Sydney side (Penrith).

We haven’t been given any favours with our 1st big drawing match against the dogs being a Monday night but the average will definitely increase later in the season.

The one-town team excuse seems like something all Sydney teams use to excuse bad crowds. There's less than 200k people in Townsville.

A fairer comparison to Eels v Dogs is Souths v Dogs. Both those games had 2 sets of members in for free. And we got more than 28k to the game.

This one only has one set of fans so roughly half of 28k sounds about right.
