Is Origin really a factor down there? They were expecting a crowd of 23k,
.

no way in hell they were ever going to get 23K with the fumblers proclaiming all week they were going to get 90K just across the road

17K is a good turnout considering the Broncs are pooh ATM
a near sellout against the bunnies is on the cards in a few weeks, & there is no doubt the Storm are garnering more interest at the turnstile then ever before in Melb.

i see your estimation for Souths v Dogs is 30k.... i think this is 20k light

won't be 50 on a Friday
its just too darn hard to battle traffic to get there

but it should be bigger then 30K
with fine weather it should nudge 40K .... as should the game V the Chooks which could be 1V2

It seems that expectations for certain games oneed to be based on the day of week, Souths v Dogs/Bunnies will be 30K on a Friday but 50K+ on a Sunday. The NRL only have themselves to blame for poor crowds when they allow TV to call the shots.

When we were waiting for the draw the tv execs didn't the the original draw and demanded a new draw.

Couldn't agree more mate. NRL has sold out. Obviously the Friday night game will get Channel 9 the most money with advertising at a premium but that will knock a few thousand off the crowd.

I also noticed the Daily Telegraph mentioned ratings and crowds are down this year. Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that's because of the draw done so far in advance. Teams that were expected to go well were put in prime time slots and when they haven't gone well people aren't watching them thus affecting the ratings. I think doing the draw a few weeks in advance is a bit better and will ensure that the form teams are getting the right spots to maximize crowds and ratings.

Media reports are suggesting that TV viewer numbers are down this year. So if people are not watching NRL on TV or going to the games then what?

That is ridiculous. How can you be allowed to play a competition game in a ground with such shitty capacity.

Make it 10k then.
