Well the Brisbane club is suffering from their lackadaisical approach to membership drives and fan engagement. They truly rely on being the only club in town and away support.
This was sharply evident during the double header I attended a few years ago when Canterbury took over the match-day program during the second game. The Canterbury clubs entire approach was about their fans and inclusiveness. Brisbane appear too interested in corporate support and their needs. Which I'm sure draws that money in but from a normal fan perspective it leaves one a little flat. For goodness sake, they are still playing that outdated song and having the horse run around the field. About time for some new ideas I'd say.
They are in trouble should they find themselves ensconced in the bottom half of the ladder for much of the season. A sub-20000 crowd is not out of the realms possibility.
That said, I still think this first game should nudge 40000, which will be a good result against Manly.
Keep us updated on sales figures. From my observation your analysis or sources have proven correct in the past.
We're going to be outnumbering them 2 to 1. If Easts fans actually showed up it would be a sellout.
Spot on - another myth re. Rooster crowds and general support. You will be sitting at home with a long face.
Souths fans will not outnumber rooster fans, never have never will at a roosters home game.
Ah I agree with all of that.
Will keep up to date, given the weather forecasts for next week i worry about the crowd figure. I feel it may be an embarrassment. Given the second tier of white is no where near opening and in category blue - they are still trying to sell the first section out (318) Western maroon is sold, but im not even sure if they will open eastern maroon.. (sometimes they will wait until last minute if the weather is looking bad, because suncorp open it if its raining) So for against manly first game it could be diabolical. I will purchase my ticket on game morning and the pax i receive will give a massive indication.. Usually add 1-3k on top of that.

If it isn't 40K.... even with inclement weather
then the people of Brisbane .. are kidding themselves
a city of ova 2 Million people .. with 1 team representing them in their favourite sport
& we're using words like embarrasment
diabolical etc to describe the potential crowd
won't suffice if its not 40K
a bagging of biblical proportions for the Broncos & the people of brisbane
will ensue if it isnt.... [-X[-badgrin:

I find it weird that a city bigger than Perth can't get close to the crowds of our most popular sports teams.
Just need to say that the Reds crowd tonight was posted as 30,995... which is crap, union calculator business. The second tier at the Milton Road end wasn't even open, and the eastern stand was very patchy. If this was a Broncos crowd it would've been announced as 19000 max. Don't know where they pulled this figure from.
Anyway, hoping for a good one next week.

People still greatly underestimate how much the SL War affected RL in Brisbane. Crowds went from 43K+ in '93 to 19K by '97.
Just for reference in 1993 Collingwood averaged 38K and WCE were 33K. Swans and Bears were 9K and 11K respectively.
Easily the biggest wanker on this thread.
