10k and change at Canberra. Not good enough in good weather.

This is not multiquoted, because I am clearly responding to a different match. Just in case that sort of thing bothers anyone. (Although I am not sure that anyone is that small minded to be bothered.)

Looking at the last Raiders/Roosters games in Canberra, this is also spot on in terms of what we should have expected:

2012 - 8860
2010 - 10767
2009 - 13100

Today's crowd is almost spot on the average for the last three.

I think the problem is that everyone predicts what they want the crowd to be, rather than looking to the form of clashes and recent years and seeing what it is likely to be. Expectation management is the key.

Glad to see some context posted for the crowds as a change. Sure they weren't great but they weren't terrible either. They're pretty comparable to previous years with both teams looking pretty terrible to start off the year. It's nothing to start panicking over.

We got absolutely hammered with rain driving down from Sydney for a good hour or so coming into Canberra and it was f**king freezing.

The Sydney media are absolutely hammering RL crowds and praising A League crowds.

Terry Kennedy just finished a spiel about how great Western Sydney Wanderers crowds are compared to NRL crowds in Sydney.

What do the table topping Wanderers average again?

But we be happy if we got crowds like there's, also got a funny feeling that both SOO in Sydney will not sell out...sorry for being a humdinger but thats the way Iam as if it wasn't union 10 years ago having ago at League it's now AFL and soon to be Aussie Soccer.
Everyone was raving that the NRL will get an IC and then the billion $ deal and thats it BUT maybe things will take time but I for one can not wait that long and just want to see every club including the Gold Coast lot putting bums on seats and not just about TV viewing.

The think the issue have stagnated for a lot of clubs, and we have a great crowd of 51,000 in Sydney and then 18,000 the next. We need to be more consistent and I'm really shocked how quick supporters drop off following their team so early in the season i.e Penrith.

But saying that I don't think we will increase the average anytime soon unless we get the stadium mix right. In my opinion, the NSW govt should go ahead with their 75,000 capacity upgrade of ANZ (bringing the sidelines and behind the posts closer to the action), upgrade or build a new 40-45,000 rectangular stadium (the NRL and several clubs should get together and put money into this with the NSW govt), either upgrade Parra stad, or one near a line that is accessible to a lot of supporters, and upgrade Brookvale.
