I still trying to get my head around 3 games on Good Friday.

Stupid having a Gosford and Newcastle game on at the same time.

Agree not sure what they are trying to acheive with 3 games on good Friday. 4pm and 7.30 would have produced strong ratings on nine in nsw and Qld. Instead we have the bunnies on fox and a very weak game into nsw on nine in the manly v cowboys game. Never mind that it will be lucky to get 6k at Gosford.

The second and even bigger mistake is having mnf footy in addition to the Monday afternoon game!! Seriously what on earth were they thinkingand even worse its arguably the weakest fixture in the whole season Penrith v titans. 3pm on Saturday would have delivered a better crowd and a bet the ratings will hardly be any different

Third mistake, once again they have saturated sydney and nsw once again in this round. Queensland, Melbourne and Auckland deserve to benefit from holiday crowds but have been frozen out this Easter.

All in all sort from souths v doggies and eels v tigers which I think will get 40k and 35k each the round is a scheduling disaster

Just looking at the NRL draw and good to see Parramatta have 5 home games in a row

Round 9 vs Sharks at Parra Stadium
Round 10 vs Dragons at Parra Stadium
Round 11 bye
Round 12 vs Penrith at Sportingbet(There will be more Eels fans there)
Round 13 vs Cowboys at Parra
Round 14 vs Doggies at ANZ(There will be more Eels fans there)

5 home games in a row is unheard of,WE GOT DIS

I have never understood where people in Melbourne actually live

You can drive 20 min north west from cbd and see farms and cows and stuff

Only 1 game on Sunday this year, as opposed to last year when there was only 1 Saturday game at Easter and happened to be a sell out at Shark Park.

I think the Penrith game shouldve been a Sunday afternoon or at least one of the Sydney games shouldve been played on Sunday alvo.

South and east of the CBD. mornington is 50km south, lilydale is 40km east. Its like western sydney out there. Its probably half of the population in that area.

Because Channel 9 are so f**king desperate to pander to Brisbane. There are plenty of other timeslots either one could be played.

I think you mean Channel 9 are desperate to make as much money as they can.

Funny that...

This.

There should be a rule implemented by the NRL that two Friday night games cannot be hosted within a certain radius of each other (say, for example, 100km). I thought it was also ridiculous having Friday night games at both Leichhardt Oval and Allianz at the same time, or Parramatta and Homebush etc.. due to the much closer proximity between those two venues (approx. 10km apart from each other).

Also, I don't feel it is fair on either the Cowboys or Titans if they are in a Friday night match simultaneously with a Broncos match, as 99.9% of the time the Broncos match will be the one live into QLD with the Cowboys or Titans match at 9:30pm. Like what happened in Rd 26 2010 when the Canberra fans lobbied and as a result, the Broncos/Canberra match was shown live into Canberra instead of the NSW match, in the situation mentioned above, the Cowboys match should be shown live into North Queensland via WIN tv and likewise the same should be allowed for the Titans (especially if those teams were playing in away games). I miss the days when networks did and were permitted to broadcast their teams matches via regional affiliates if Ch9 didn't televise their match (e.g. Newcastle, Canberra, Brisbane, Nth QLD etc.)

And finally, who could forget that debacle in rd 26 2009 (I think) where the Friday night games were in Gold Coast and Brisbane respectively. The Gold Coast game was the one televised live into NSW and as a result, there was no radio coverage of it in QLD due to the stupid blackout rules in radio coverage at the time (which existed until the current tv rights deal in 2013) which meant that only the Friday night match that Ch9 televised live into that state could be broadcasted by radio stations in that state. As a result, the Broncos game (which was also live on tv into QLD) had to be the radio match in QLD.

There were a few Good Fridays where Souths/Dogs was on at ANZ and WT/Brisbane was at the SFS at the same time.

Yeah, I know. IMO, that's still too close and have never been a fan of having the distance between matches so close to each other. 100km is about right (maybe a compromise could be done at 50km when both matches are held in Sydney as there's more teams in Sydney compared to any other city or town in the NRL). But yeah, I did feel that when I initially saw the draw at the start of the season that having Friday night matches in Newcastle and Gosford simultaneously was a bad idea (94km between the two venues), just like when it was in Gold Coast and Brisbane in Rd 26 2009 (83km between Suncorp and Robina, approximately 1 hour drive between the two locations).

The weekend forecast is great. Good weather across the weekend in Sydney. No excuses, no rain, just get out there and enjoy some footy. Tell your friends, tell your family and get to a game. Simple as that!

I would have loved to have visited Melbourne in the sixties.

The majority of Melbourne is located to the SE of the CBD, but is now rapidly expanding to the north and west. These area's were not previously not developed as they were crappy land.

melbourne has no traffic. ive been in the CBD in "peak hour",

Compared to what? Rio? Have a look at the Tulla or the East Link during the morning and afternoon peaks.

I hope so. Been pretty crappy weather in Sydney lately. No doubt the crowds wouldve been better had we had fine weather last weekend.

Expect big crowds for both Friday and Monday matches at ANZ.

Fancy CH9 trying to get a return on what they forked out hundreds of millions for? Personally I wish we didn't have as many Friday night games but what it is, is what it is, 2 broadcasters that have shelled out hundreds of millions that keeps our sport sustainable so unfortunately some comprimises have to be made.

We all get that ch 9 is a commercial business

Though we need to eliminate the stupid decisions they are making with the schedule

If NRL loses popularity it will hurt ch 9 as it is their only major sport contract

At the end of the day it's the fans that pay the broadcast money not channel 9

Channel 9 just channel the money from us to the Nrl

They need to remember this

So why don't 7 enjoy the same scheduling control over the AFL? They paid just as much as 9, yet get lower ratings (and thus a lower return). Serious question, why do we COMPLETELEY bend over to 9 on scheduling while the AFL get to work equitably with 7?

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/new...-1bn-afl-tv-deal/story-e6frg6nf-1226045243391

Most of the uplift in value will come from Foxtel and Telstra, given the $90m a year Seven is paying will be about the same it paid for the 2007-11 rights.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl...than-ever-before/story-e6frf3e3-1226047392787

The simulcast option meant that the Seven Network paid less for their rights as they lost total exclusivity, but Foxtel paid more to be able to broadcast all nine games per week. The "premium" cost of those four games wasn't halved between the networks, rather the AFL sold them to the networks for a greater value.

Ch7 paid pretty much the same this time around as a compromise for letting Foxtel simulcast Ch7's FTA matches live. Foxtel were allowed to broadcast all matches live in the season, bar the Grand Final - the only match Ch7 has exclusivity over.

Ch9 didn't agree to the simulcasting condition (not to mention that broadcasting NRL was far more profitable compared to broadcasting AFL, as they learnt when they co-owned the broadcasting rights during 2002-06), hence why they didn't participate in the bidding.

im going to both the ANZ games this week, both should be very good games. hopefully one of them cracks 50k though i expect 35k for friday and maybe 40k for monday if were lucky

and a friend wants to go to dragons / warriors so that would make 3 games for me this week.

edit : if we could get 50k to each game it would be a chance for the game to turn around all the negativity thats hounded it since the season started

Next year easter games should be in brisbane, townsville, melbourne, auckland and sydney. Give as many cities the opportunity to host and benefit from a easter game it be a big step up from titans vs Penrith in penrith.
